    My first grow,

Hello gin4dub , Don't you dare even think about scrapping the grow, I'm the one who says that kinda thing anyway

They are looking fine Gin like you say the tallest one is a little droopy but you also know what the cause is so there's no problem there anyway.

Also never worry about having a good moan and groan on here about life's little problems, I'm always doing it ......................... it's a good outlet for them

    My first grow,

Stop worrying so much. Invest in a 400 watt MH lamp and ballast. You still have several more weeks to go in Veg before flowering takes place. Miracle Gro is just fine, the only additional element needed is H2O, water from a flowering can ever other day with a count of 10. When in flowering, planted in a 1.5 gallon container the count is 45 for watering. Count off to yourself once the head starts pouring. End of.

    My first grow,

    Wassup GIN.

Nice, healthy looking plants you got there.

I'm on my first grow too, and I'm also using miracle grow soil. I wish I wasn't. MG soil has slow release nutrients, so it's impossible to control exaclty what nutrients your plants are recieving, and it's easy to over-feed your plants. Also, MG soil has poor drainage. I can only water my plants once a week because it takes so long for the soil to dry after I soak them.

So, when you transplant your girls into 3 gallon pots or whatever you're going to use, I suggest making your own "soilless mixture". People use peat moss, vermiculite, perlite, and some other things. You can do some research to figure out exactly what to use and what percentages. But I highly suggest not using miracle grow soil when you transplant.

You got the right idea on saving up to buy an HPS system. If not for this grow, for your next one.

Sorry to tell you, but if you think the plants smell now... just wait. They smell 10 times worse during flowering.

Like you said, first time grows are a learning experience. I've learned SO much from my grow and from this forum, and it sounds like you are too. Best of luck to you!

    My first grow,

    This morning I added around 5400 lumens of light to my growroom. If my addition is correct I'm up to 12171 lumens total;
    2-2900 lumen 42w cfl's, (150w incandesant equiv)
2-2000 lumen fluoex full spectrum 25w (100w incandesant equiv)
    1-1471 lumen 25w cfl (100w incandesant equiv)
    1-1700 lumen 26w cfl (100w incandesant equiv)

more I'm not sure how much of a difference that'll make for my plants but I have noticed that now my eyes can't comfortably handle the light for even short periods of time . If my job stops screwing with me and my money, I might be able to get an hps in the next few weeks. My #1 priority is fixing my car though. The sooner I do that the sooner I can find another, better paying job then my grows will really be nice.

Finally my tallest plant is coming around nicely, the indica plant that imploded on me a little bit ago is thriving again, and here are some pics of my new lights. Impressive?... hell no but I like em darnit.

    I love this part..

    You can't add lumens!

But, it still helps, because the new lumens put out by each bulb will focus on individual parts of your plants.. The more bulbs, the more growth.. But you still can't add lumens together... Sorry!

Your plants look splendid man!

    My first grow,

    Hey Gin...

I did not read the entire thread in detail..
But you should be at least 1-2 weeks into flowering
you plants are NICE.. and they will mature into good solid BUDS...
BUT you need to CLONE now or flower NOW...

There is no time to loose..
You have managed to grow plants with minimal lights with very little stretching...
This means better heavier denser buds..

    KUDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

may all the love in the world come your way and drown you in HAppiness!!!!!!!
    NOW

Thing is, GK, I am about a week into flowering. My plan was to start when the smallest plants were 1 foot tall.

    A few questions:
    - With this minimal lighting, how long will it be until I see any bud growth?
    - Where do the buds grow from on the plants?
    - Finally, how can I tell if my plants are, God forbid, male?

In the meantime, I think I'll get off my lazy ass and look it up.

    Q. 1 - Don't worry... If you've got females, you'll get buds.. Not to worry!

    Q. 2 - You'll see!

    Q. 3 - Males have balls.. Females have not balls.. There are numerous charts on the internet that will tell you! I'll include a link to one of MY threads...Well, it's not mine, It's Zandor's

    My first grow,

Hey Gin, love the grow! Your plants are looking nice and hopefully you'll get some nice smoke out of those ladies. If they are ladies anyways... pray that they are. lol

But I had a question for you. I saw where you said you lived in an apartment. I do too, and I was planning on starting a grow soon (it'll be my first), but I'm not sure how it would pan out while I'm renting? Do you worry about the smell at all, landlords coming in, or anything like that? Just curious!

The Indica plant turned out to be a dude his execution was swift and brutal. I hope the remaining four don't dissapoint me.

I'm probably not the one to ask for advice about handling the smell. I didn't really do much mask it. Also the way my apartment complex is set up I lucked out. Each building has four units side by side. One of my neighbors is never home, and my other neighbor and I are really good friends (we smoke and drink together and she's a cut buddy:thumbsup. Since I work third shift, I'm home during the day so if the landlord or any of the property management crew come in my apartment, I burn an incense or smoke a black n' Mild to cover the weed smell, and watch them very closely.

If I needed to be more covert, I'd probably cut a hole in the ceiling and run a vent tube into the attic.
