    My first grow,

Whats up yall, I've been around for a few months mainly reading, keeping a low profile, and doing my best to learn all that I can. About a month ago, I got up the courage to start a grow. I'm not sure what strain I'm growing. I just took some seeds I had lying around, germinated them and put them in some miracle gro brand soil.
I guess I'll give a few stats on my closet/growroom:
    - 4ft wide (I'm using 3ft of that)
    - 2ft deep
    - 5ft tall
    - Currentlly I have 2 cfl's putting out 2900 lumens each (I read somewhere I need about 3000 lumens/sqft When I get my money straight I'm going to get a 400w hps)

    About my babies
    - 5 plants (unkown strain)
    - each in an 8" pot

I'm not expecting a whole hell of a lot with this low rent grow of mine as far as yield. More than anything, I hope to learn a lot. Oddly enough though, it seems to be going quite well as far as the veg goes. Everyday my apartment smells more and more like green (thank goodness for 2 bedrooms and no roomates).

Anyways thats all for now, I'll do my best to keep this thing updated.
any comments, questions, advice, suggestions, etc., by all means, let me know.

Btw, here are the first couple of pics I've taken.

    My first grow,

Here are some more pictures pardon my leg in one of the shots.
They're really begining to smell. I love the smell, but its no good for my friend discretion. I think I may place a anti odor cfl in my growroom extra light and less odor is a good thing right?
I'm thinking I need to puts some fans in the room asap to thicken the stems. Also I'm thinking once ths smallest plants reach 1ft tall, I'm going to flower.

Anyone have any idea what strain these ladies are?

    My first grow,

looking good, you definately need more lights though, I hate lumens they confuse me, how many watts is each light. and getting that fan would be great. Also, put the lights closer, cfls are really cool. Id say get another two cfls on that for now, and get that HPS as soon as possible, it might be a good idea to get an MH/HPS and 2 seperate bulbs as this will increase yield

    My first grow,

My lights are 45w cfl's according to the package, they'd be the equivalent to having 2 150w incandecents, I'm not really sure about that though.

    My first grow,

Hello gin You have certainly done the right thing by reading up before you started growing, that really does help

You started them about a month ago, they are coming on ok, you're doing fine
Yes if you can get the money together, try and go for a ballast that will take both the MH and the HPS bulbs, that really is the best combination.
However don't worry they look healthy and they are coming on as they are now

Yes if you start them on the flowering cycle when the smallest is about twelve inch you should have plants that end up about two foot or so. That means they should still get light at the bottom.

    My first grow,

Nothing really too new, just rotated my biggest lady with one of her sisters so the smaller one could could get more light. Damn, they smell good. I'm psyched, I would have thought my babies would have imploded by now (I got that kind of luck) Here a few more pics too.

    My first grow,

My ladies are comming along nicely. I noticed a little yellowing around the edges of the leaves of 4 of my ladies a few days ago, so I stopped giving them nutes (I was using miracle gro, I've read many places that I shouldn't but it seems to be working). Also does anyone know what strain my ladies are? My biggest one looks like she might be some sort of mostly Indica strain (short and bushy right?) the others look like they might be a strain of mostly Sativa (tall and thin right?)

Finally, here are a few pictures of my girls, man they're getting big. By the time I have the money to get my 400w hps/mh light. it'll be time to flower these ladies. I can't wait. :rasta:

    My first grow,

DO NOT USE MIRACLE GROW!!! I REPEAT DO NOT USE MIRACLE GROW. In the early days of my grow i wanted to use Miracle Grow, and i would have, but i got the biggest uproar on the boards here on not to use it. I use Shultz, i even have it at a power not too commonly used (15-30-15) but i dilute it a little. Your plants are doing fine, but the light situation absolutely needs to switch come flowering time. The Shultz does wonderfully for my ladies... But all things set aside, your doin good, keep it up...

    Stay UP :rasta:

    My first grow,

I'm working on getting better lighting, but I also have to pay bills, fix my car (clutch and head gasket both need replacing), and eat; mais c'est tout bon bien que . As much as I'd hate to do it, I may just have to flower using the crappy ass cfl's I already have. If all else fails, I may just get as many cfls pushing as many lumens on the correct light spectrum as I can afford (maybe a flourex or 2 or 3) and just do the damn thing.

    If I'm correct (please tell me if I'm wrong) I figure I'm growing in a 3ftx2ft (approx 91cm x 61cm) or 6 sq. ft (approx .557 sq. m) area.
I've read that I need at least 2000-3000 lumens per sq. ft.
If this is the case than I need at least 12000-18000 lumens (50000 lumens from an hps hid would be beuatiful but that isn't in my budget right now)
Hell, I'm a crafty guy, I may just have to pull off a miracle, or two, a la Gin. Wish me luck folks. I may just have to post a new thread on ghetto engineering .

Oh and before I forget, I cut out the Miracle gro totally and my ladies seem happier.
