Beguiner cuestion: Is a male? Pic AtachedSo you do understand that because it is F1 that the children wont be the same?I will keep Him because its an F1 and I want new seeds
F1 is basically another way of saying a first cross (first filial generation), a first cross isnt stable.
Ive tried for the last few mins to come up with a simple explaination of Mendles Second Law. But in its simplest form,
F1 isnt a pure breed, but it is made from crossing 2 pure breeds together.
Lets say the male parent had the trait "TT" and the female had the trait "tt"
when they made the F1 they knew all the seeds would be "Tt" or "tT" (which is the same) as this is the only result, half from mum, and half from dad.
 So F1 is 100% "Tt"
Now when you make F2's you get
 25% "TT" (just like grandad)
 25% "tt" (just like grandma)
50% "Tt" (just like the F1s)

So as you can see, I hope, F1s are usually thought of as unstable and at the end of the breeding spectrum.

But, and this is a big But, just because you will only get 50% F1 seeds from breeding two F1s it dosent mean you shouldnt do it.
It does mean that rather than just getting you F1 variety you DO also get two pure breeds too!
you dont know which ones which untill you have grown them, but you can probably bet they were both good pure breeds for someone to make the F1 in the first place.

 And now my head hurts

Beguiner cuestion: Is a male? Pic AtachedBut what if you brred two of the same F1 plants? this would seem to make a stable breed. I mite be rong, I have only grown, not made seeds!

Beguiner cuestion: Is a male? Pic Atachedover time, with selective breeding, and more plants than two. you could keep selectively imbreed until you have stableized your own cross. imbreeding is essential for stableizing a strain. just like dog breeding, thats how they produce plants or anything else that will seem like clones of others. you must be carefull not to breed without a goal in mind ahead of time. also male and female plants will provide diff. traits to their offspring. for ex. females usualy provide the smell & taste, but males usualy determin the amount of smell & taste. so a very skunky male crossed with a faintly mango flavored female would probably throught mostly very mango flavored plants. the best thing about plants is if you got the time you can get fast results indoors. Beguiner cuestion: Is a male? Pic AtachedYep, male.

If you end up with seeds you don't want to breed, just eat 'em.
Best source of complete protein and no mad cow!
