Lighting Question for a frist grow
Grow space - 32â? Wide / 17â? Deep / 32â? High
I took an old dresser, beat the fuck out of all the dresser drawers tell there was nothing left but the front/face of them (I left the top drawer alone just incase some one gets snoopy the top drawer is still functional). Then I used finishing nails to secure the drawer face back onto the dresser. While putting the drawers back on I used foam tape and stuffed it into all the spaces between drawers to make it light proof. Then I spun the dresser 180 degrees (so I am looking at the back of it) and removed the back panel, also removing the nails. Then I applied hinges to one side and an eye hook to the other side to act as a latch. So now my grow box is pretty much set up for the most part. Next thing I did was I cut four 3â? X 3â? squares in the back panel and mounted four 34 cfm computer fans in each of the holes to act as my venting. I also put 2 small 7â? box fans in opposite corners of the cabinet to help move air around. Next I lined the hole inside of my cabinet with Mylar (Space blankets). I started out with two 2â?? long fluorescents [(4) 40 Watt bulbs], and then upgraded to a 70 Watt Hps light. The venting was able to hold the temps down in the mid-upper 70â??s (76ish) so I was pleased with that.
Alright now the good stuff, I am on my 3rd week of vegging 4 bomb-as-mother-fuckin-bag-seeds. They are growing at an incredible rate, this being my first grow it seems fast. I am hanging my Hps about 8â? away from my plants and they donâ??t seem to mind at all, no stretching and no burning.
The whole reason I am posting here is because I wanna know about some lighting problems I came up with lately. I wanna upgrade my lights for flowering but (1) is it over kill for having a small grow like this (2) is my venting guna be able to keep up and (3) whatâ??s the cheapest way to go. So here it goesâ?Š
150 WATT HPS = 15,000 Lumens
150 WATT HPS (80$) + Bulb (20$) = 100$
http://www.menardsonlinecollections....=1141786793835
Will say Wiring and all that crap 110$
65 WATT CFL = 6,825 Lumens
Bulb and mogul base converter = around 20$ at Menards
Will say wiring and all that crap 25$ a bulb
So, I get to my point
110$/25$=4.4
â?Šthat means I could hang (4) 65 watt cflâ??s at 6,825 lumens a piece coming out to be a total of (6,825 x 4 = 27,300 lumens) PLUS (4 bulbs x 25$ = 100$) so it would possibly be cheaper to get more Lumens going with the Cflâ??s
So whats better Cflâ??s or Hpsâ?ŠTerps Reviewed by Terps on . Lighting Question for a frist grow Grow space - 32â? Wide / 17â? Deep / 32â? Lighting Question for a frist grow
i believe its not only the lumens, but the spectrum of light.
I am usng cfls for clones/early veg.
I am going to MH for 2 week veg, or basically a couple weeks before flowering.
Going HPS for flowering. I got the upgraded Hortilux for the better spectrum.
CFLs will work, as I have seen it done, but i want bigger buds/faster growth?
I'm a noob too, check out my thread in this forum with my setup.
