its a good idea to always have a small knife with you, not even for protection but you never know when you might need to cut something open (like those pesky bags of snacks that seem to be taunting you with their ability to stay closed no matter how hard you try to tear them open). as for myself, i earned a first degree black belt when I was 12, and I've had to use some my skills from time to time, but for the most part, if you grab someone's throat and squeeze like you're trying to touch your fingers together, that person will usually back down pretty quickly. or if you want people to avoid you alltogether, then just carry around a nice big baseball bat. I mean seriously, how many of you would walk up to someone that's walking down the street with a baseball bat?
