Shelbay is 100% correct. If you're a woman being attacked by a man you want to make sure that you fuck him up so badly he isn't going to get up and run after you. I studied kickboxing and offensive street fighting for two years. The place where I trained (http://www.militarymuaythai.com/) taught a women's self defense class that was possitively brutal. The goal was to put the attacker in the hospital and if you killed him so be it. There was none of this "kick him in the nuts and run away" shit you see on tv. Like the saying goes "a best defense is a good offense" and this was all offense.

Fortunately the city I live in, San Jose, is pretty mellow. It's the 10th largest city in the U.S. but has very little crime. Actually it is a fact that it has the lowest crime rate, for the city of its size, in the U.S. . I've only had to use my training two times and none of those were in situations that I felt really threatened in. What scares me is that nowadays people are so quick to use a knife or gun. I can hold my own if its hand-to-hand, and even have some training in knife combat, but if someone wants to shoot me? Oh well...
