Are you willing to die for somethin?

I was just wonderin if you guys were ready to fight and die for wathever cause you find important

like for me I'd be ready to die for the fall of capitalism

i'm not saying that i'd throw my life away for nothing but since I know that capitalism must fall a soon as possible and that in our lifetime wich is short we are destined to serve capitalism...might as well fight and die for its abolition.

I wont waste my life but I will fight cause its the only way to make a revolution (sad but true) and I know that there will be a right time to fight and on that day I will be ready to fight and die for the good of mankind

it kinda sucks since I hate violence but its necessary cause those capitalist out there wont share the world without a fight....

but anyway their aint only capitalism...share your thoughts

let us say peace for now

Corruption cannot be eradicated with the destruction of capitalism. Its a symptom of greed, which appears to be basic human nature. So, I voted for "time will do the job.." eventually culture will evolve and corrupted systems of government will become obsolete. Either that or humanity will go extinct. Either way is looking good for the elimination of corporate evil.

What makes you think greed is basic human nature? Just because you see it all around you? By that logic, I could have declared racism just part of human nature 200 years ago. It's clear that our behavioral patterns are not biologically geared to make us greedy, or you would have a real hard time explaining the Israeli kibbutzim, the Spanish collectives of the 1930s or the way that practically every pre-agricultural society has ever functioned.

Even if greed was somehow inevitable in society, why create a system that actually rewards it? Crime and disease are also inevitable, but we don't have a social system that puts the best criminals and disease-spreaders in the top positions of power. Well, not the disease-spreaders at least.

Why leave it up to evolution? You're putting an awful lot of faith in future generations doing the work that we should be doing now: getting rid of corrupt and greedy social institutions. They don't just go away on their own, you know. People have to overthrow them and put in place new systems, better systems. History shows us that man always yearns for greater and greater liberty. You will see this if you study up on history's great revolutions: the French Revolution, the American Revolution, the Russian Revolution. The socialist merely acknowledges that the struggle is not yet complete, and that greed can be eliminated with one simple action: the elimination of private property.

Who would be greedy if industry were collectivized and organized to meet the needs of the masses, and if the means of production and the means of living were the common property of everybody? It is no secret that we have the industrial and material capability to produce what everybody needs to live a happy, healthy life. And yet the vast majority of the world's wealth is concentrated into the hands of a few because we reward the greediest. Because of this, millions are forced into poverty and starvation, while enough grain to feed all of Africa is deliberately destroyed each year just to keep grain prices up. If the food industry's purpose in our society was to feed people and not to make the food industry owners richer, these people would not have to die. Capitalism is killing people, and I would be honored if I were somehow able to sacrifice my life to end it.

Yeah, it would be great if things were so simple. If you could just sacrifice your own life and save the world for the rest of us. Shit, that would be like, the greatest story ever told. You'd probably be so celebrated too, Oneironaut. People would literally worship you. You'd probably dig it, except you'd be dead.

Things aren't so simple are they? No mysterious figure is going to accept your life as collateral on the entire human condition.

Maybe we should consider instead how to bring about change through our lives rather than by ending them. Just a thought.

Yeah, I didn't say it would actually be possible. I was just saying that if it was, I would do it. It was a hypothetical question, and I answered hypothetically. I would also give my life up if that would somehow prevent a giant comet from hitting the earth, but I don't pretend like it's really that easy. We need practical solutions for asteroid deflection and we need practical solutions for the abolition of capitalism. Luckily there are people working on that. http://www.iww.org/

Maybe, something like dying trying to get to the top of Mt. Everest :what:

Because you believe somethings up there?

The people I care about, but they weren't on my mind when I voted. Went with the time and patience.

    I don't understand. . .

I despise Capitalism, but what is being proposed as a substitute? In my eyes, Capitalism is exactly like Socialism: both sound good on paper but neither delivers what they promise.

Now, as for dieing for something I believe in. . . There are many things I would fight and die for:
    • My wife.
    • My daughter.
    • My honor (in the case that I am captured by terrorists aiming to cut my head off with a rusty knife, I would fight them until they deemed me enough of a problem to kill immediately).
    • My countries of origin (Spain and Czechoslovakia; America is not a country).
    • The right of all countries and cultures to mind their own affairs and direct the course of their destiny as they see fit.
    • Ending globalism (an extension of the last point).

Defeating Capitalism/Socialism would only be on that list if it entailed the end of globalism, which is in my estinamtion the world's most fearsome foe.

I'm still trying to figure out how America is not a country. Are you proposing the idea that each individual state is a country? We are, somehow, divided.

I've walked in a lot of countries. Plus, another country.

edit: by the way, I do have a little Native American in me, I'm sure whatever the hell tribe it is doesn't mind America calling itself it's own country.
