Flashback: 94% of Brits Believe Diana Cover-up

Comment: This was all too predictable. Lord Stevens was also responsible for the inquiry which linked British Intelligence with IRA terrorism. Even though the investigation confirmed damning evidence, there were no consequences whatsoever and it was swept aside. Despite the astoundingly obvious evidence of foul play, this investigation has also been swept under the rug by another phony government controlled commission.

The Official inquiry into the death of Princess Diana will conclude that she died in a simple car crash.

Britain's former top policeman is to state publicly for the first time that he believes Diana was killed in an accident.

The Daily Mail can reveal that following a two-year investigation, Lord Stevens plans to release an interim report saying there is no evidence she was killed unlawfully.

His findings undermine the many conspiracy theories surrounding the 1997 car crash in a Paris underpass.

The full report will go to the royal coroner in the next few months and will form part of the inquest into Diana's death, due to be heard in the autumn.

The extraordinary development comes as former Met Commissioner Lord Stevens and his team of ten detectives enter the final stages of their investigation.

They have found no evidence to contradict the French findings that Diana died in a tragic road traffic accident caused by excessive speed.
They say even a skilled racing driver would have had difficulty controlling the Mercedes she died in as it hurtled through the Pont d'Alma tunnel.
Lord Stevens has held discussions with royal coroner Michael Burgess - who commissioned the report in 2004 - about his plans to publish an interim report in May.

But legal observers believe Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, father of Diana's lover Dodi Fayed, who also died in the crash, could object.
In addition, any report which supports the view that Diana was the victim of an accident is unlikely to stop the torrent of conspiracy theories.

Indeed, ever since Diana, Dodi and chauffeur Henri Paul died, Mr Al Fayed has been at the forefront of wild allegations about the crash.

He believes the princess and his son were murdered by British agents because the establishment, including Prince Philip, decided Diana must not marry Dodi, a Muslim.

The official French inquiry revealed Henri Paul was three or four times over the drink-drive limit when he left the Ritz hotel in Paris with the couple and bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, closely followed by the paparazzi.

British police have established that Paul was working for the French security services and that shortly before the fatal journey met his 'handler', it is believed, for a briefing over a drink.

According to French judicial sources, the interim report is expected to reveal that claims that Paul was 'blinded' by a bright light before the crash have been discounted.

Ex-butler Paul Burrell has been questioned about a note said to have been written by Diana ten months before she died, in which she claimed Prince Charles was plotting to kill her in a car accident.

In a one-to-one meeting, Charles has told Lord Stevens he had nothing to do with her death, and he believes she died in a tragic accident.

Officers have also traced a crucial new eyewitness who has rubbished the myths surrounding the crash. Bodyguard Kez Wingfield, 40, who was at Diana's side in Paris on the final night of her life, has given Lord Stevens a 13-page statement on what happened.

"They say MI6 fixed the fatal car crash on orders from the Royal Family,2 he said. "But that's ludicrous because all the arrangements for that journey were changed at the last minute on orders from the Fayeds - the car, the driver, the route, everything."

As the investigation moves into its last stages, the detectives will now focus on suspicions from the Fayed camp that blood samples taken from Henri Paul by French police may have been wrongly analysed.

Lord Stevens believes fears over the original blood tests are justified. His officers will re-examine the tests. They think their French counterparts may have taken 'incorrect readings' from the samples - but believe the conclusions from the new tests will be broadly similar.

Mr Al Fayed claims the blood samples were switched to make Paul appear drunk.

Paul's black Mercedes is currently being examined by Britain's leading accident-investigators.

At a secret location in South London, they are trying to establish, once and for all, whether the brakes had been tampered with or any part of the vehicle sabotaged.

Police know the £60,000 car was at the centre of a 'shunt' some nine months earlier - and want to establish whether this affected its performance.

The Pont d'Alma underpass is an accident blackspot and detectives have analysed each previous crash as well as the condition of the tarmac. A 'virtual reality' film reenactment of Diana's final journey has been produced. The computerised image replicates the car's speed, its weight with four adults aboard, the condition of the road surface, the slope of the road and weather conditions.

A source close to the case said: "Lord Stevens and his team have carried out a painstaking inquiry into Diana and Dodi's deaths. They will soon be in a position to destroy the conspiracy theories.

"The plain truth is they died in a tragic road accident."

Official: Diana's death 'simply an accident'

I gotta say it folks, I really don't care if Diana was murdered, or died in a tragic accident. Somehow, I can't imagine her being so important or holding such valuable information that she was killed for it in some twisted conspiracy. Personally, I thought she was just a victim of bad luck. In light of all that's happened since her death, it seems kind of distant and foggy and just not that important. For every celebrity that dies there are at least a dozen conspiracy theories that pop up afterwords. Look at Marilyn Monroe. James Dean. Etc.
It should be interesting to see how many pop up when Jacko dies.
