The leaves are like our skin if you go swimming you dont soak in the water or nutes in the water. The only opening is the stoma on the underside of the leaf. The stoma spit out water via transperation and take in CO2. You could kind of put a slight oil on them if you know what your doing but I dont want ions burning my leaves. I just dont see how it would benefit the plant if the leaves can not absorb it. Besides nutes such as organic nitrogen has to be converted into inorganic form by micro-organisms to be absorbed by the roots. The rhizoshpere plays a vital role in nutrient uptake.
