Length depends on your strains and I havent grown any of that type so I cant say for sure but you have till the pollen balls burst lol...
Use a magnify glass to get a closer look and look at the pic in the link I provided. As soon as you start 12/12 I would say after a week to 2 weeks any strain should show either male or female signs.
I just started a new grow with all fem strains gonna see if they hermie and have some lowryders ordered gonna check out that 8 week from seed to harvest man that maybe good if the smoke is nice.
Lowryders would probably be the only strain where the week-2 week rule doesnt apply since they autoflower it would be much earlier.

I'm noticing bud like structures starting at internodes that have already sprouted an additional branch while being significantly far away from the rapid growth area at the top of the main stem. They're hard to spot with the naked eye, as you can see in the picture.
