Funny you should bring that up now, I've been running all over town trying to find some since yesterday. I did find one store that sold it in pill form, but I want the traditional drink. BTW "kava kava" is just a brand name, "kava" by itself is the actual name.

Anyway, dont' expect kava to give you hallucinations, it's a fairly mild drug. people in the south pacific have drank it for 3,000 years like we drink coffee. One thing though, you have to make sure you only get the stuff that's from the roots, if they use the rest of the plant (as many foreign inexperienced people have done) you can get some severe liver damage and even total failure, as has happened.

As for effects, it reduces anxiety, stress, and depression, makes you think clearer, feel euphoric, be more social, reduces nausea in some, works as a muscle relaxant, helps give you a better sleep, and agressively attacks cancer cells while bypassing healthy ones (the last one is a recent find, so doctors are just starting to use it as part of cancer treatments).
