    Into archaeology? Lost civilization found!

Using ground-penetrating radar, scientists recently unearthed the remains of a thatch house, the carbonized bones of two people, and other traces of what they believe is the lost Indonesian civilization that was destroyed by the biggest volcanic eruption in recorded history. Mount Tambora's eruption on April 10, 1815, buried Sumbawa Island under ash, gas and rock, and resulted in an estimated 88,000 deaths and "The Year Without a Summer."

I think they've only found radar imaging of the remains buried beneath the two hundred year-old ash.

They had a pretty accurate body count in Pompeï, it even matched the citizen register.
