Like Rasta said, most THC is absorbed into your lungs almost immediately after inhaling the smoke.. holding smoke in for more than 5 seconds is basically just a waste and harder on your lungs. I always count to 2-3 in my mind before I exhale.

And if you're concerned about the odor, pack the end of a toilet paper roll with a couple dryer sheets and blow your smoke into that. I've never done it before cause I don't worry about the smell, but I've heard it works.
