If what you say is true then considering the chemical formula for amyl nitrite C5H11NO2, minus an oxygen would make MDMA C5H11NO. Unfortunately MDMA is C11H15NO2, and the chemicals are structured very differently as you can see.
That's the essence of the point I was making, just because they only differ in 1 molecule, doesn't mean they influence your brain in the same way.
