Indica vs. Sativa-Questions/Local Weed

Hey, if you read my thread "my weekend baking" it gives all the information of the shit I smoked, so I won't go through that again, but to sum it all up, I've smoked different grades of "mid-grade" and some commercial.
All of this shit is easily available locally, and is referred to as "middies" sometimes "alright middies" or "really good middies", and commercial is sometimes good and sometimes just alright. Lately, I've been smoking good commercial, and some high end midgrade. As I was reading the article in the latest issue of High Times, indica vs. sativa, which was supposed to explain it, well it just made me more confused.
It says that sativa is for straight smoking, and indicas are for making hash and kif. Well, by reading that, I would assume that indica is alot more powerful than sativa, and that it's mainly used for hash. And that "mid-grade" weed, the stuff I always get, which is usually just green with some of that white sparkly stuff and some red hairs, OR "commercial" which is just green with some dark green hairs and lots of stems and seeds, would be sativa, because it's common... SO, I thought I had it all figured out.
Until I continued reading the article which suggested that indica is the most commonly grown in america... "but for smoking?" I asked myself. "I thought that was for powerful shit like hashish?" I also asked myself.
THEN, when I was reading a thread on this forum, someone was talking about having a powerful experience, and everyone agreed that "it was probably some good sativa... a nice change from indica"...
So what the fuck kind of weed am I smoking?
I'm still getting used to it and all, because my first experience I smoked so much, I was scared and traumatized. Now that I know what to expect, I enjoy getting high, but I don't know if I'm ready to get more high than I normally do... Also, say for instance I've been smoking "mid-grade indica" and I can handel it fine, and then, someone sells me "mid-grade" but it turns out to be "mid grade sativa"... Will it be totally different, and will I freak out again?

I know I"m not ready to try any "good weed" that my friends sometime get, like White Widow, Blueberry Kush, Blueberry Chronic, hydro, etc... and other "powerful" stuff... I'm still getting used to enjoying the effects of THC. So can someone please explain to me the real difference of Sativa and Indica, and what I'm most likely smoking? I assume it's home grown stuff, as I live in a small town in the mid-west. Oh yeah, in HIGH TIMES it also gives examples of each, such as Acapulco Gold for Sativa, and Northern Lights for Indica? What are the differences in the hights, and what the hell is midgrade weed? Indica or Sativa?

Sorry so long, I just smoked a couple of roaches, and have a little buzz, and whenever I'm high I always type alot and think of more things to add.

Mid grade weed is just that: Mid grade.

It doesn't refer to sativa or indica, just the quality of the weed.

The two types effect the high you get off of them. Sativas give more of a head high, more giggly, more energetic, while indicas give more of a body stoned feeling, more relaxed and narcotic.

Any type of weed can be made into hash, but often indicas are used because they usually yeild more and often have more THC percentage in them. But i think most smokers will tell you if they had to choose between good sativa or indica, they'd choose the sativa.

Most mid-grade or common stuff you get is more indica than sativa i would guess, it flowers faster so people who grow for profit will usually grow indica or indica/sativa hybrids.

the differences are:

sativa / indica

smaller, compact buds / big, donky dick buds
grows in a cooler environment. / grows in hotter environments
more of a trippy, heady high / more of a body high
more of a mission to grow. / not so hard to grow
native to europe / native to india/africa

in a country like america, like here, u prolly get mostly indica, whereas in europe, its mostly sativa.
if u can get sativa, do it.

Actually most of the weed we get here in the U.S. is a mix of indica and sativa. Growers have cross-bred the plants, into hundreds of different strains,to get the various desired characteristics. It's pretty rare to get 100% of one or the other although you do have a better chance of getting a pure indica that you do of getthing a pure sativa.

One of the big advantages of growing indicas, beside the potency, is that the plants themselves are usually a lot shorter than sativas. This makes them much easier to grow indoors. Its a lot easier to hide a 3-4' shrub than a 10' tall tree. I think indicas also require less time to grow as well.

The big differences in the highs, like others have said, is that sativas will give you a more energetic , happy, high while an indica will ive you a more relaxing body high. If I'm going to to something like go out with friends, go hiking, etc, I definitely want something predominately sativa. If it's night time and I just want to chill out in front of the tv an indica is nice.

Yeah, usually each time I get high (I'm a beginner and have only been stoned about 10 times) they are somewhat different, but usually I smoke different amounts. The first time I got the most high I've ever been, because I smoked two joints and two bowls all by myself, before I felt anything. It was just some good mid-grade, but when it hit, it was crazy. When I was walking, it literally felt like I was "walking on the moon" like floating or bouncing. The other times have been just stoned with severe cotton mouth and laughing and forgetting and shit. The last time I got baked, it was... I dont know, but very powerful. I was kinda high, then all of a sudden, when I announced "I AM BAKED!"" the words "I am bake" echoed so many times, and rose up, and got so loud. I was so fucked up and could just stare at things, and then start imagining weird shit, except when I walked, I still didn't get that "walking on the moon" effect. Of course, I've never smoked anything better than "mid-grade" so I can't really tell if I'm smoking indica or sativa.

most weed on the comercial market is indica because its easier to grow. Indica is a heartier plant and has a shorter life span. The differences are hard to explain but easy to identify one you get used to it.

I personally like Sativa...I'm not sure but I heard that with Indica you get a couch-lock high, I still am not sure what that means but I'm sure I found out one time, I was on the couch over my gf's house and I didnt feel like getting up, I was just lazy and didnt talk. She would say shit and I just looked at her then looked back at the t.v. and felt so comfy lol also it was quite powerful. But I smoked some sativa one time here and I wouldnt stop talking, wouldnt stop walking and I felt like I was in a FUCKED up choppy game, and I saw colors and I called everyone I knew. Both weed gives basically the same paranoia and sometimes at high dosages uncomfortable feeling but if I had to choose I would definatly pick sativa, it's way better to me and doesnt make me feel all sleepy and tired. Sativa does have a sleepy effect on me so I'm sure I havent smoked 100% sativa but it's still better than indica in my own opinion.

Sativa is very fun at times ... but I LOVE my indica.
