Gettysburg is under attack!!
By greedy fucking bastards that is!
I mentioned once before that i used to be a civil war reenactor, and this strikes very close to me, I've had the priveledge of having spent 3 mini vacations there and spent alot of time at Gettysburg doing volunteer work with my roundtable, I painted fences and planted trees in areas that were forested during the 1860's. In fact, im tempted to cancel my spring break trip to Florida and instead go to Gettysburg.
I am extremely saddened by this and the whole country should be too, It is very sad that americans want to tarnish something so meaningful to the history of this country! Please if you care at all you can make a donation however much to the http://www.civilwar.org/getinvolved.htm Civil War preservation trust.
Also, If you havent been to gettysburg yet you should deffinetly go, It is a wonderful experience for everyone, even for stoners, It's beauty is one of a kind, you will never experience anything like it. I dare you to smoke a bowl and take the audio car tour, thats an extremely somber experience. I would very much like to get high and do that again. If you arnt very familiar with the events on that day the least you could do is watch the movie, it gives an accurate depiction of the battle. If you live in PA it isnt that far away.
On top of all this, there has been some vandalists going around destroying monuments, private donors have released that they will pay 30,000$ for information leading to their arrest. I hope they fucking get jailed for years! Fucking rich ass gettysburg college kids im sure thats who is doing it

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Gettysburg was the site of one of the largest battles fought on American soil, but today it is playing host to a different type of fight: Whether slot machines should come to town.
A proposal that would bring gambling a little more than a mile away from the Pennsylvania battlefield propelled it onto a preservation group's list of the 10 most endangered Civil War battlefields released Tuesday.
Proposed development was one threat cited by the Civil War Preservation Trust in the naming of the 10 sites located in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Washington, D.C.
"Hallowed ground, where more than 600,000 Americans gave their lives, is being paved over in favor of shopping malls, housing tracts and even gambling casinos," the trust's president, James Lighthizer, said Tuesday during a news conference.
Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina were blamed for some of the disrepair at Fort Morgan, Alabama, and two forts outside New Orleans. Sprawl and a lack of money have also contributed to many of the problems at the sites, Lighthizer said.
The site in Glorieta Pass, New Mexico, is referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West" and is where Union forces were able to turn back the Confederate invasion of New Mexico. The trust blames neglect and public indifference for problems such as the weakening of a structure that served as a field hospital.
The other sites are the Shenandoah Valley, Glendale and Wilderness in Virginia; the Chattahoochee River line in Georgia; Circle Forts in Washington, D.C.; and Raymond, Mississippi.
The three-day fight at Gettysburg was a tide-turning battle in 1863 that sent Confederate soldiers into retreat and left 50,000 killed or wounded. It is also where President Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address warning about the destruction of the nation, and asking that the troops who died there not be forgotten.
Last year, a group of investors from an entity called Chance Enterprises unveiled plans to boost economic development by seeking a slot-machine license from Pennsylvania gambling regulators to anchor the proposed Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa. State regulators are expected to rule sometime later this year.
The investors released a statement Tuesday accusing the preservation group of lying about its proposed plans so it can raise money.
"It is amazing how the Gettysburg Battlefield has gone from not even being on the trust's list of 25 most endangered battlefields to the top of the list overnight, even though our resort has been a subject of debate and discussion for nearly a year," said David LeVan, the investment group's chief executive officer, in a statement.
"Clearly, the trust is lining its coffers," LeVan said.
The trust denied claims made by LeVan.
Battlefield list
The Civil War Preservation Trust's list of the 10 most endangered Civil War battlefields, in alphabetical order:
â?¢ Chattahoochee River Line -- The line stretches along the northern banks of Georgia's Chattahoochee River, and is where Joseph E. Johnston's Confederates took up defensive positions after the battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
â?¢ Circle Forts -- The circle forts are a ring of 68 fortifications scattered around Washington, D.C., that were built to protect the Union capital.
â?¢ Fort Morgan -- It was at this site that Union Navy Admiral David Farragut proclaimed "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" The fort where supplies were smuggled into the Confederacy withstood an 18-day bombardment before it surrendered.
â?¢ Gettysburg -- Site of one of the largest and most costly battles ever fought in the Americas that left 50,000 casualties.
â?¢ Glendale -- Also known as Frayser's Farm, it was the site of the fifth day of fighting of the 1862 Seven Days Campaign. There were about 6,500 troop casualties at the site.
â?¢ Glorieta Pass -- At the pass, Union forces were able to turn back the Confederate invasion of New Mexico.
â?¢ New Orleans Forts -- Forts Jackson and St. Philip on the banks of the Mississippi River 70 miles south of New Orleans were able to hold off Union troops for a week in 1862 before Union gunboats broke through.
â?¢ Raymond -- The site was a turning point in Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Vicksburg campaign.
â?¢ Shenandoah -- Confederate Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson won fame in the valley for his series of victories in spring 1862.
â?¢ Wilderness -- The first clash between Civil War Gens. Robert E. Lee and Grant took place at this site, leaving more than 25,000 troops dead and wounded.bedake Reviewed by bedake on . Gettysburg is under attack!!
It's not even so much of the country, as it is just morally wrong in my eyes, like i know a guy that just got back from China, he said he was in the forbidden city and saw a fuckin starbucks like rightoutside the wall, who the fuck puts a starbucks right next to something that historically significant?!
Its like building a freakin casino right next to that place where the pope lives! Im not a religious person but for shits sake its a historical place! Its not about whether you like the country or not its about preservation! its about remembering things of the past!

Gettysburg is under attack!!
I was born in Gettysburg and lived there till I was 19. It was a great place to grow up.
I spent a lot of time blazed in the battlefields.
They have been trying for slots there for the past 2 or 3 years.
A few years back Disney wanted to put some kind of park there.
They tore down the Gettysburg National Tower because:
"This is sacred ground," Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt said yesterday. "Americans come here to learn of their past . . . their heritage. It is our obligation . . . to honor this sacred landscape by preserving it."
Within a year of them imploding the Tower a huge outlet mall went up on Baltimore St? Now a casino? I thought the tower was cool... how else are you going to be able to view the battle fields like that other then a hot-air balloon.
I hadn't heard about all the vandalism... what was destroyed?

Back on topic
one of the real messed up things about them putting up the mall, casino (if it goes through) and just the build up of the area in general is that people are still finding artifacts there all the time. as kids we'd find belt buckles and especially bullets and stuff from the civil war. There is still a lot to be found out there... not just civil war artifacts. There were a lot Indians and stuff like that in the area. we used to find tons of arrow heads and stuff.

Gettysburg is under attack!!
it's all the fuckin big-business taking away everything that ever meant something to this country. not only are they taking away precious land to build more chains that offer nothing but mindless brainwashing, but they've affected our entire culture. look at kids today, all they care about are name-brand materialistic over-priced garbage that they get mommy and daddy to buy for them. seriously, america is a great place to live and i am proud to be an american, but every year, little by little, we're losing the things that made america great. for shit's sake, you can't even put up lawn decorations or talk about stuff you like in a public forum if you could possibly offend 1 other person. tough shit is what i say, america isn't called the world's melting pot for nothin. if you can't deal with different ideologies, races, religions, beliefs, etc... don't fuckin live here.
