Halides are for veg' phase...You can use either HPs or MH for either phase and with good success....However for best results flower with an HPS and veg with an MH!


But that CFL should be powerfull enough to veg a plant for a long time...Howver I don't think it will cover much area with strong enough light to raise more then 1 or 2 plants!

sweet ok its been a couple of days and its quit streching and bushed out like crazy and added like 6 sets of 3leaves
also can i use cool white flur. tubes and if what wat can i use
i just germanated a lot of seeds because last time i only got 1 plant i germanated 14 seeds and they all died

Actually, metal halide will bring a taller plant, which is why growers prefer it for vegetative stage. HPS, a warmer yellowed light makes short fat plants so it is preferred for the flower stage. For those fat buds you need the HPS, as Metal will make long thin ones.

Real growing for you would use both and add a black light (UV spectrum) to really pump up the juices. Go buy a black light and see the difference! Its what makes high altitude growing so great.

Also using a HPS on top, CFL with UV on sides will produce an incredible grow. MH may be substituted or added on top/sides.:thumbsup:

I was under the belief that MH lights emitted more intense light that was of the correct wavelength for foliar growth. Also that stems grew fatter under Halides and therefore the plants produced were bushier....

I have used an HPS for veg' phase and found the plants to relish such light...

However ..I've also read of grows were Halide lamps were used to veg plants and the results were incledibley short, dense plants with vigorous foliar growth and minimum internodal distance [The strain I read of was SS Chronic].

Fluoros in the cool white and warm white spectrum are fine [ as with HPS and MH, the combination of the two is optimal]..Tube fluoros in my opinion are superior to the CFL's because they will distribute light more evenly over the grow room,therefore plants will be more likely to grow at the same rate.
CFL's are more intense [Per square foot] . Therefore MANY CFL's even spaced will light the veg room with higher intensity light [compared to tubes]..


So they key is ...if you decide to use CFL's...buy many smaller wattage bulbs and spread them out evenly over the grow room..[or buy many larger wattage bulbs and spread them out if you can AFFORD it]...Or use tubes of the same wattage that will distribute light all th way along their length...


But I'd seriously consider a 250 to 400 watt MH [which a hint of orange in its spectrum] to veg your plants. Sylvania is one manafacturer that comes recomended.

For flowering , I'd go 400 watt HPS with a touch of blue in it's arsenal.

sweet.. thanks for all the input... i got a 20w cfl from my mom tonight,oh and im 30 and have lived on my own for 10 years..lol, but i mentioned the grow cuz shes cool like that and she hooked me up so thats a total of 165watt. and i still only have the one plant that has survived through all the light changes and every thing but i have more germanating any hint on how to do that?

my baby is now more bushier then ever... 3 rows of 3-9 leaves
can u give me a time frame on how long i have to keep 24/0 up and when do i start vegd. and for how long?

and really about the black lights i have a couple of those laying around
do i use it for flowering or vegd. or both?

how old does the plant have to be before i can clone it and what is the watts i should use for the clones( i will be useing a hydroponic type grow for clones until they get roots
