Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!!
This is a little long, but PLEASE bare with me....
My girlfriend has a puppy that I've been keeping at my house, because she can't have pets in her apartment. The dog has been staying here for a few months now. When it first got here we kept it inside. My mom was saying that it had worms so we had to put it outside. I never saw the worms in her feces or anything at first. Anyhow, we put the dog outside in a fence. She was fine up until the past few days. My cousin, who also stays here, got another pup and we put it in the fence with my girlfriend's dog. It had gotten to the point (a few weeks ago) where my cousin's dog would not let my girlfriend's dog eat. So I had to start standing out there during feeding time to insure that the dog was getting enough to eat. Well, I was gone for a few days and my cousin was supposed to keep food out for the dogs. I went out to feed the dogs when I got home. When I approached the fence, she was lying on the ground on her side, just staring at me. My first thought was that she was paralyzed, as she usually jumps up and gets all excited to see me. I also noticed that she had a lot less weight on her. Well, I picked her up and brought her inside. She couldn't hardly stand up on her own without falling down. She REFUSES to eat. She drinks water on her own every once in awhile. She lays around with the muscles in her legs jumping and twitching. Occasionally, she whines. Most of the day, she just lays around for a bit, then gets up and wanders around aimlessly. We are going to take her to the vet, but cannot do so until Wednesday. I examined some of her feces out in the fence and found a really big roundworm in her stool. Will worms cause this jerking of the muscles and such? And all the sudden weight loss in just a few days? I'm really worried about her and don't know what to do until we can get her to the vet. Does ANYONE have any idea what this could be? Is it just worms? It seems that there may be more to it than this. Also, she's having alot of discharge around her eyes. This morning I woke up and checked in on her. One of her eyes was so full of gunk that she couldn't open her eyelid. The other was just blurry looking... like a thin film was covering it. Her eyes got better and finally cleared up quite a bit througout the day. Someone give me some useful advice here. My girlfriend is crying her eyes out and I don't know what to do.w4terb0ng Reviewed by w4terb0ng on . Pet Emergency: PLEASE HELP!!! This is a little long, but PLEASE bare with me....
