 seedsHey,

I am a new grower and i just got some seeds from a friend. I put them in some jiffy pelets and now i got some sprots. The seedlings look very tall and skinny , some of them are falling over - they are about 2 weeks old and have two main leaves and about 2 sets of smaller leaves --

is this normal -- should they be so tall and skinny-

 please advise
 thanks

seedsNo, they should be short and bushy.

 Sounds like insufficient lighting.

seedsYeah, if they are tall and spindly they are streching for light. If you havnt already got one go out and by a compact flouresant now... Get the highest wattage you possibly can and stick it about 2 inches away from the plant. If the plant falls over then get a little stick to support it. Also get something like a PS2 fan and a 6 volt battery and let the fan blow on the plant. It should get the stem nice and strong. If the seedlings are too far gone, bin them and start again with all the right equipment.

seedsI have had luck with a freinds sprouts that were stretching for the light by replanting them in new pots and burying the stem enough so that they stand up right. Some say this is not a good idea but I have noticed from experience that the soft stem tissue will form callic and do just fine. The stick idea works great too. Oh ya, lower those lights! Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

seedsTom Green is right.I saved 4 plants that a friend sprouted without light. They were about a foot long and falling over.I buried them up to the main leaves .Now they are huge. And some of the healthiest plants I have...I think one is blueberry!
