Nutrient Temps- practical solutions

Ive been looking at these chillers:

They seem too large for my application (20-40 gallons). I've found a temp of 65 F to be best, but changing the ice every day is somewhat tedious. Has anyone found suitable products, or found different optimal temps. thanks.

Wow, those are pricey. Somewhere on the internet, someone posted how to make a water chiller using a small refrigerator. If you let a breeze from a fan hit the top of your reservoir, it can change your temps about 10 degrees cooler. I tried it and it works.

I thought the optimal temperature is 78 degrees. What has been your observation with temperature? I'm doing my first hydro grow.

the nutrient bottles i use say 65-78, but ive found that over 75 invites pythium (sp?) and moldy roots. Lower temps means more disolved oxygen, and white happy roots, My temps went as low as 56 using frozen bottles with no shock to the plant. I try to keep it between 60 and 68.

68 is optimal for oxy content. Pricy coolers I have looked at them too. But hey if you have the bucks, why not. I got a small window air to keep my room cool. Res stays at 68 and the room is about 70. Some guys were putting small computer fans on their res. One blowing in and one blowing out. They say it can drop about 10 degrees.

dudes, you can build your own chillers with a mini-portable fridge and they are like 80 bucks...
