Because of propoganda and a bunch of other crap. The government lying to it's citizens for 70 years. Because the pharmacutical companies would lose money. Because the government likes having the power to criminalize so many people because it allows them to get into their private lives, send them to jail, and declare war against their own citizens.

look at it this way.. how hard would it be to regulate weed.. near impossible.. and if it was legalized the economy would crumble. Weed would be so much cheaper. Drug dealers would have to find other ways to pay the bills.

from what i understand its a couple things, but none of which had to do with marijuana being "dangerous" and shit like people are brainwashed to think today. it was mainly because the hearst newspaper was having huge competition between using tree paper for their newspapers as opposed to hemp which was much more plentiful and in greater supply and easier to make into paper. so they spread a bunch of lies to get it illegal.

"The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.â?

There's no way the government could regulate weed... well, with people growing their own and all that stuff. To me, it's a money issue. It's easy to regulate alcohol and tobacco... cause the normal, everyday person can't just grow/make that stuff themselves. But if you want the truth about how marijuana became illegal, check out pixel's link... that basically explains the story. But you're right, Chaos... when have you ever seen an angry stoner?
