If the government made it legal, then big companies (most likely tobacco companies) would jump on producing it. This would drive down the price until it simply is not profitable to be a dealer on your own. Hence, when big companies have to keep records of marijuana in and out, then it is subject to being taxed. Bottom line: the government would not have any trouble putting a tax on it.
