Friend almost got a DWI in MY car
Okay sooo I went up to Albany a few days ago to visit my friends and then drive them back to Long Island (where we all live). My friends are heavy drinkers, especially moreso now that we are all in college.
So anyway, we are drinking pretty heavily one night in their apartment and at around 2am or so that sudden urge for food arises (drunken munchies!!)
Knowing that we all have a lot of experince driving drunk (not good I know!!) I ask my friend if he wants to drive us down to the deli to get some snacks and whatnot and ill pay. Unable to pass up the thought of free food he quickly agrees.
So anyway, we leave the apartment and drive to the deli nearby (it's like a five minute drive). My friend Mike drops me off infront of the deli and tells me he'll wait in the car, fine i thought.
Now this is where it gets funny, lol. I get out of the deli with 4 beef patties and 2 bags of cheetos. To my dismay I don't see my friend Mike or my car anywhere. I think to myself, "What is this idiot doing?" I start walking down the street thinking that he may have parked the car on the side of the road. Out of the corner of my eye I see police siren lights reflecting off of the side of a nearby building down another street but don't think anything of it, seeing as how they live in a pretty bad neighborhood.
After walking down the block a little bit and coming to the realization that he wouldn't have parked this far down the road i turn around and head back to the deli.
That is when I see it.
An Albany police car pulls up to me. Right away I knew what happened. The guy rolls down his window and says to me, "So, you looking for your friend Michael?"
I say to him yes and think to myself that if he asks me anymore questions that I will answer truthfully. Word of advice here just from personal experince, i've been in way to many situations with cops and the one thing i've learned is to always be honest. Cops were kids once as well, so most likley they will cut you some slack if you are honest and treat them with respect.
The cop asked me if I had been drinking tonight and I said yes. I then explained to him the situation and he nodded. He then goes, "Well, every once in a while I like to cut kids like you a break. I told your friend to park the car on the side of the road and walk back to the apartment, you guys can pick it up in the morning."
I thanked the officer for his generosity and not ruining the rest of my life (lol) and watched him drive away down the road. A second later I see my friend Mike walking down the road toward me. He told me that he got pulled over for turning around on a one way street so he could swing around and pick me up. What luck, right?
When the cop stopped him my friend said that the officer knew right away he had been drinking. My friend was honest with the cop, though. Telling him he had dranken, so i'm assuming that's why the cop took it easy on us.
I wasn't really mad at him. He's one of my best friends and nothing bad came out of it really, it was more of a learning experince if anything!!!hihigh Reviewed by hihigh on . being honest is not the best policy, cause it wont always work out like this, but luckily for you it did.
