    Too hot?

I have two 125w lights I bought home depot, they say they are for growing plants, they are pretty hot however. I'm growing these in my closet, so far they are about 8 inches tall. They're in Miracle Grow vegetable mix potting soil, or something like that. Problem is, it gets to be about 80-86F in the daytime, at night it's around 75 I guess. I have a small fan circulating air in there, not sure if it's dropped the temps any tho. I think they are starting to die, but i'm not sure of what, I think I have been overwatering them for one, I water them about twice a day, once in the morning, and once when I get off work. In about half a week I go through a gallon of water. The lower leaves (only 3 tiers) are yellow, and it's starting to go towards the top too. Any advice, most obvious problem is the temperature I would think, but I'm sure other things need some work too. I can't open the closer or vent it in anyway that I can think of. As I'm needing to hide it from the family.

One thing I would say you are over watering for sure. Another thing is the plants can take that kind of heat if there is extra CO2 in the air. I have read that if there is enough they can sustain temps around 90 -95. I found this way from a book and is cheap way to raise the CO2 levels.

Besides the fact that your drowning them, the soil youre using isnt really good for cannabis. Its not because of the temperature because cannabis grows in locations that have temps that exceed 90degrees F...It could be the lights. Youre the second person ive seen post using the 125W GrowLight from homedepot. Both of you are having problems, similar problems too. Maybe you should switch to compact flouros? U can get those at homedepot for like $10...

Ive grown some really good buds from CF lights..In my opinion they are the most efficient lights for personal use indoor growers that need to hide it from people. You want two CFs per plant. You can use these lights throughout the whole life cycle. Now of course they arent the best lights and yea, if you have more money you can buy a nice MH or HPS setup. But due to the fact that you have to keep it hidden, MH and HPS lights arent a good idea. Mainly because they emmit more heat than your 125W growlight, garenteed..So needless to say youll need MORE ventilation and shit.

But if i were you i would try switching the soil and cut down on the water big time first. Then just see if it pulls through. If not, then ya gotta start over and you can try a different light and soil.

at the stage of being 8 inches tall i dont think the soil is the problem. MG is bad for seedlings because it has fert in it, burning them. So at this stage it shoud be good. But dont use ferts for 2 weeks or so because placing the plants in MG is like ferting them.

well I made a new thread, I had forgotten about this one.. so.... hopefully that won't piss anyone off, but basically, I've gotten rid of the plants I had, and I've started over. I put the ones in my backyard, I figure they are going to die anyways, so... w/e, see how they do there.

I now have 2 500w halogen lights. Are they any good for growing? They are also very hot however, right now it's 96 degrees, it's normally around that temperature. I'm kinda worried about that. Maybe I should get some CF's or something. The halogens only cost me 20 bucks, so it's not like I'm out much. I replaced the 2.. or 3, I was growing and I started over, I germinated them, and put them in the pots today, so I'll let you guys know how it goes if they sprout. Temps are a big concern right now tho... I think I gotta get some new lights.

btw, I'm growing 8 plants, so would I really need 16 CF lights? That sounds like a lot. The growing space is probably about... 7ft high, by 4x4. I wasn't planning to let them get too big, I think they'll fit in there ok tho, if I have to I can find somewhere else to put them.

Well I just went to home depot and got a 150w cf to see how it was, and I'm really impressed with it. So far has dropped my temps down to 80, and my house is 77, I dunno why it's so hot in here but w/e. I think I'll be fine. I'm gonna go pick up 2 more right now, unfortunatly one of my lamps is now busted too, so I gotta get 2 lamps as well which is kinda getting pricy but w/e. You think 3 of these will be enough? each light has 2300 lumans. I'm not sure how much I need, but maybe once I get paid next thursday I'll prick up 2 or 3 more, and then I'm sure I'll be set.

Second thought, I only got 50 bucks, so maybe I'll have to hold off on anymore lights till thursday

CFs will be your best bet dude..The halogen lights are 100% useless..A cannabis plant will not grow with that spectrum..

In a 4x4ft square with a 7ft hieght i would advise using about 4-CFs considering each puts out 2300Lumen, however, this is only if it will be an enclosed grow box!!! The more light that escapes, the less light your plants will get. You must make sure it is flat white on the inside of the grow space to utilize the light efficiently as well..Proper ventilation should be equipped. You know, like a small fan and a few vents..

If you dont want them gettin big, then i suggest doing a strange indoor technique that ive tried a few times that seems to work out great for high yields! Keep your lights down real close to the plants, like an inch and a half to two inches away. Before the plants get too tall, place a layer of chicken wire fence over all of the pots/containers..Once the plants grow through it, TOP them. Then gently weave all the branches that come out of that through the chicken wire fence. Now, whats going to happen is the plants are going to continue to grow up at each branch tip. This makes it a little easier to utilize more space with less plants. Meaning you could cut down to like two plants and have 4 CF lights and still get the same amount of bud as you would from all 8 plants due to your growing space limitations..

Now if you really want to utilize your space and see some crazy shit, try topping each of the branch tips that begin to grow up after you weave them through the chicken wire fence...It can get rather crowded with buds so dont do it too much...

I beleive than 2000 lumens per plant is a good start, if, of coarse, it is in the right spectrum, that's why halogen is shit for growing maryjuanna,

ok, well right now I have 3 CF's. I'm very pleased with them. They look like they will definatly get the job done. I convinced my friend to get some too, he has 3 as well, altho he only has two plants right now, one thats about 2 months old, it's about a foot or so tall, but it's no where near as big as it should be, barely has any leaves on it, and clone he took from that one just 4 days ago. 2 or 3 of my seeds have sprouted, the rest are just about to aswell. I'll let you know how it goes in about a week or so. Thanks for the help guys. btw, with 3 lights my temps are 73 degrees right now, and my room is 72, so thats really good.I know they should be between 68-75, but whats the highest they should go? I mean, I'm gonna be adding 5 more lights, so I'd imagine it would go up a few degrees still.

btw, if I didn't say, it's in my closet, and my closet is painted all white, so that works out well. I was jw, how would it be if you set up mirrors in there, cause mirros reflect everything. I don't think I would do this, but I was jw, me and my friend were talking about it, if we could just get abunch of cheap mirrors.

No mirrors, mirrors are bad. They "eat" useable light...The flat white paint is fine. Sounds like the CFs will do ya some good bro. The temperature really isnt an issue as long as you have a small fan on them. The highest i would go is 85F. Any higher and you risk killing your plant if its strain isnt acclimated for that temperature. But usually that doesnt happen. Cannabis is highly adaptable to temperature and soil differences.

Like i said before, the temp. isnt your problem, its the type of lights you were using. The CFs will be a miracle for you bro. Make sure they are gettin circulated air tho. Stagment air can stunt growth and cause other issues you dont need. Its too easy to prevent aireation problems to worry about it. Keep a fan breezin by em, rather simple.

PS- Sorry for the delay, i went on vaca.
