    18/6 vs 24/7 ????

    IMO,
18/6 is better becaue you save 6 hours of light...

    24/0 will work out fine...

BTW: I think that the options should be 18/6 and 24/0...
Although the 24/7 is understood that the lights will always be ON, the nomenclature we've come to use is to place ON hours first and OFF hours second... so, lights ON all the time would be 24/0.

But, dude! Everything's fine... I'm just nitpicking... maybe clearing that up... maybe a noob might get confused...

    Anyways, 24/7 = 24/0...

How I experienced it was that seedlings grow better under 18/6, wether it's under floro, TL, MH or HPS and hortiluxes. I think they need that dark period to remain healthy at a top level, grow better roots and maybe photosynthesise better, but that's a wild guess since i don't posses that knowledge.
But clones on the other hand... They seem to do better under 24/7, especially with an MH or lower charge lamp. 24/7 under a HPS light is a bit too much for vegetation, in all cases, in my humble opinion, a 24/7 lower charge is good for clones.
But yeah. turtle's right, just adjust settings when you're growing

Exactly what he said, although i feel for the first 1-2 weeks 24/0 is fine. I've just put my seedlings on 18/6 and it is starting to grow quiker again becayse after 1/2 weeks they slow down. They DEFFINATLY benefit from that dark period, because thats how it would be if they were groiwng outside, and basically thats wot your trying to simulate inside 18/6 all the way!

yeah 18/6 is better because plants eat in the day and work at at night.u can't eat and work at the same time properly people!anyways I made a mistake on my vote but now u know 18/6 rules! You will find out upon experience :stoned:

I germinated my seeds in soil under cfls, in order to get them warm enough. Under 24/0 the seeds tended to rot or get cooked, but with 18/6 they got to cool off and all germinated.

the proper tem is 24/0. you get10% more growth using not nearly 10% more power so 24/0 is advisable for most grows. unless the extra power consumption is a big issue.

that's exactly how I think I screwed up 2 seedlings about 2 months ago. they were 24/0 under a 400hps from day 1... stupid move on my part. yeah if they have a pitch dark period the roots definately dig deeper, resulting in a higher seedling this was 1 of the seedlings, way too low. see? you're gonna have way bigger plants
