    Yes, to grow anything usefull you'll need at least 200 watts of *ACTUAL* output. I got about 2 oz a few months ago with three 42 watts and four 20 watts.

    you can get 4 socket "hollywood" light bars at home depot for around $15. the kind that go over the mirror in the bathroom. that's what i use for the 42's.

    inthe clouds, i wasn't really trying to argue about it, i have seen alot of confusion over this recently and was just trying to clear it up. i hope i didn't make it worse! the 300watt hood thing was just an example. i can see how it was confusing, i tend to say "you" not meaning a specific person but just peolpe in general kinda like "you all" . now i'm just confusing everyone else too. i think i'll just go back to hitting the vaporizer!!!! see "you" later

I have a very expensive degree in lighting and electrical science, I know what I'm talking about!

    And you really should quit with the stupid colors and ridiculously large text, you're annoying everybody with that too.

    42 watt= 2700 lumens:::150 watt(incand)= 2700 lumens
    That is what I said.

    Expensive degree and NO COMMON SENSE!

    About my text and color, If you don't like it Don't read it!!!!!

    No, that is not what you said. You said, repeatedly, that you had a 150 watt CFL when you do not. Nobody cares that a 42 watt CFL has the same output as a 150 watt incandescent. NOBODY USES INCANDESCENTS FOR GROWING! When you say something like "my 150 watt works well for growing this" or "I got a 150 watt CFL for $10" or "my 150 watt CFLs make x amount of heat" anybody with half a clue about lighting automatically assumes you are talking about the actual output, and it only makes you look like you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. This has nothing to do with common sense, if you had any we wouldn't be having this arguement. Maybe you'll find some common sense by the time you get out of high school.

    You have a LOT to learn about lighting, and you said yourself you are on your first grow. Instead of pretending like you're an expert when it's obvious you're not, you need to listen to what the real experts are telling you and learn from them.

    I did listen to the experts. If I could get my damn pics on here (I am computer stupid), you could see how well they are doing. I don't claim to be an expert on anything, some stuff I hear and try sucks and some works great.
    OK I will try again, I have 6-42 watt cfl's(16200 lumens) over 8 plants. They are doing exellent, 1-plant is 8 weeks old and is 13" tall and 10" across (beautiful plant) and started another bunch of 7-plants that are 1 week old today and are about 2" tall and look great.
    BTW I am a 46 yr. old country boy and have learned a thing or two over the years.

    And that's all you need to say. Anytime you have a question about your grow, or are answering somebody else's question, that is the only information which is relivant.

    pardon me as i put this into idiot proof format: lower number on packaging is actual wattage output of bulb cfls are good for seedlings and veging as they have the lowest lumens output needed in early stages of development and also are good because they put out little to no heat now for a secussfull grow you need a average of 8000 to 15000 lumens per plant throughout its lifetimem dependent on how tall a plant and strain it keeping in mind cfls good track record for veging it'd take a shitload of cfls to achive the desired lumens output in later stages of its life cycle therefore unless u wanna do like garden knowm at 14+ cfls per plant then invest in a hps 250+w also im assuming your growing more then 1 plant unless your just very gullible and dont know what the hell your doing and dont mind wasting 3 to 4 months ona male, therefore use the cfls for veging/cloning then switch off to the hps for flowering this is also the best way to have a self sastaning harvest periodicly for those tomatoe lovers outthere ...luck...

    If you search the internet you can find 100w or 150w cfl's ......although they are not that compact, about 10-14" tall. they will put out between 5-9 thousand lumens ea. Just watch the base size.
