Well, I didn't exactly get held up. They never did demand money. I think they were convinced I was a cop. I'd just walked up to ask directions to a club, and that kid pulled the piece out and had it inches from my nose before I even finished my sentence. I can understand the confusion. I'm over six feet tall and white...and I wandered into A Hispanic neighborhood at midnight. And I'm not being racial here. It's just the way it is. I've read that at midnight on New Years Eve, it's not safe to stand outside down there because it rains bullets from the sky after the gangs fire their weapons into the air in celebration.
And I was never angry about my experience. More fascinated than anything. Best to experience these things for yourself. Not that I'd feel lucky pushing my luck again.
And me running to the cops wasn't so much for justice to be done...I was pumped full of adrenaline and just had to tell someone about how close I came to death.
