Interesting article Amsterdam. Sounds like the Chinese elders are trying to teach the youngin's lessons they've learned from their mistakes. The Chinese Government is really in survival mode right now. Despite Western cristicism that China isn't changing fast enough, the reality is that China is changing (culturally, economically, socially, etc) at a blinding pace. Last year when I took my wife and daughter back for Chinese New Year my wife commented that the China we were visiting was not the China she grew up in. In some ways she was disapointed although only because "home" didn't feel like "home" anymore. Seriously though, if you were to compare China 20 years ago to today it would be like comparing the U.S in the 1920's to the U.S today. There's been that much change.

The challenge for the Chinese government is how to adapt to all that change and still continue to exist as it is. They tend to let the leash out little bit by little bit and then suddenly pull it back in. Eventually something big has got to happen. Either radical change in the government or a serious crackdown on the people. If they are smart the current government will listen to the old timers and take their advice.
