"Giving control of the U.S. Ports to an Arab country is kind of like.........hiring Michael Jackson as your child's nanny."
David Letterman, 02/21/2005
He gave other humorous examples and said that if Bush keeps it up, people MAY start questioning his judgment.

I was just wondering what other options we have? How many companies in the world are actually qualified to handle this task? Also, the way I understand it, the foreign company may have oversight but it will be American union workers doing the job itself.
I don't like it but right now I have more questions before I can make a solid decision on where I stand.

I don't understand what the positive of this plan is. Why is Jimmy Carter behind it, too? Have our ports always been run by foreign countries?
I supposed I'm undecided in this issue because I don't know enough about it. But from first glance, I dont like it, and If I were a senator, I'd vote against it unless someone did a damn good job of convincing me.
Does anyone here support it, seriously I'm not gonna flame you or anything, I just don't understand it. Toroq maybe?

I am learning more about this as time goes by...my current understanding is:
Currently they are managed by a British Company that was basically bought out by the UAE company. They have always been considered US soil. This is not an issue started by Bush. I don't know how far back the details of the lease goes, perhaps that's why Carter is an issue? Altho, I hadn't heard that until reading the above post. The UAE company will have handsoff oversight. American union workers will still be the boots on the ground along with the US Coast Guard.
Man, I hate it when something this important comes up and the media doesn't handle it properly. How are we, the concerned voting public, suppose to make informed decisions with the crap they spew?

While I certainly disagree with Bush on his immigration/border policies I don't see any hard plans from the Dem's either. I think it has much to do with political correctness.
I don't know...how about taking all the welfare folks (those that don't have a legitimate medical need) and give them training and jobs patroling the border, etc? That seems a better investment all around.
