Exactly, if you get seperated from your hunting partners, (in this case it was to retrieve a bird from the tall grass) when you rejoin the group you announce yourself so everyone knows where you are. A friend of mine got peppered in almost the exact same scenario because he didn't let everyone know where he was. I know a guy who peppered a partner because the guy ducked behind some bushes. If he had been standing in plain sight it wouldn't have happened. I announce myself even in short grass and I've never been peppered.

TIP: Avoid novelty hats with feathers or stuffed antlers while hunting!
