Man Shot In Accident After Laughing At Cheney

(AP) LAFAYETTE, Colo. Hours after laughing about Vice President Dick Cheney's hunting mishap, Josh Kayser was himself shot by a friend during a hunting expedition.

The 21-year-old Lafayette man was taken to the hospital Monday night after his girlfriend accidentally shot him while they were trailing a raccoon that had been preying on chickens on his family's property.

"I read that thing about the vice president and said to myself 'how can you shoot your friend with your gun?' And look what happened," he said Tuesday.

Kayser was crouched down to look under a shed where he thought a wounded raccoon was hiding, and his 17-year-old girlfriend accidentally shot him with a .22-caliber rifle. Police have not identified the girlfriend.

All this media coverage about this hunting accident is making me furious. Thank God his motor cade has run over a dog or something serious like that. There would be investigations, committees â?¦â?¦..what did he know about the dead dog and when did he know it. I think they made way too big of a deal about the blow job but the fact remains that he lied to the American people under oath.....even about pot he lied...I smoked it but I didn't inhale....please....I didn't not have sexual relations with that woman Miss Lewinski (sp)..... I live in hunting grand central. I can't sling a dead cat without hitting at least 10 or 12 hunters. This kind of stuff happens all of the time. He should just be glad it wasn't buck shot And no they don't normally charge people in hunting accidents with attempted manslaughter regardless of what income you are.

According to the report he's 65 but it doesn't say how long he or Whittington have been hunters. Most hunters start asa kid with their relatives so I'd guess he's been hunting over 50 years. The sites I've read so far just say "experienced" and describe him as "He's a great shot. He's very safety conscious. This is something that unfortunately was a bad accident and when you're with a group like that, he's safe or safer than all the rest of us..." type comments. Really, hunting accidents do happen.
