    The fact is that even if you ban guns criminals aren't going to give them up. If you take them away from law abidin citizens then the only people with guns are outlaws, and citizens are completely defenseless. Thank God I live in America and I have the right and ability to protect myself from criminals.

    I would be SOOOO Happy if that were to happen....I was actually thinking yeterday about mankind being wiped out.....and the sooner the better imo....the earth will be able to heal its self and the other animals we share this place with will be far better off....

    I do actually wish this would happen......with only a couple of hundred humans surviving....and having to revert back to technology-less life....thats the life I want to live.

    LOL.....if only

    FACT: While handguns account for only one-third of all firearms owned in the United States, they account for more than two-thirds of all firearm-related deaths each year. A gun in the home is 4 times more likely to be involved in an unintentional shooting, 7 times more likely to be used to commit a criminal assault or homicide, and 11 times more likely to be used to attempt or commit suicide than to be used in self-defense.
    -A Kellerman, et al. Journal of Trauma, August 1998; Kellerman AL, Lee RK, Mercy JA, et al. "The Epidemiological Basis for the Prevention of Firearm Injuries." Annu.Rev Public Health. 1991; 12:17-40.)

    You aren't protecting yourself with your guns, you're just being selfish.

    FACT: A gun in the home increases the risk of homicide of a household member by 3 times and the risk of suicide by 5 times compared to homes where no gun is present.
    -Kellerman AL, Rivara FP, Somes G, et al. "Suicide in the Home in Relation to Gun Ownership." NEJM. 1992; 327(7):467-472

    FACT: Comparison of U.S. gun homicides to other industrialized countries:
    In 1998 (the most recent year for which this data has been compiled), handguns murdered:

    * 373 people in Germany
    * 151 people in Canada
    * 57 people in Australia
    * 19 people in Japan
    * 54 people in England and Wales, and
    * 11,789 people in the United States

    that's ridiculous

    If you own a car you're probably 500 times more likely to die in an auto accident, should we outlaw cars too?

    Those stats may be correct. However, one of the main reasons for this is because we keep letting people who commit crimes with guns out on parole as opposed to keeping them locked up indefinitely. This becomes more and more difficult as the jails and prisons keep filling up with pot smokers and small time drug dealers. And even in prison we can't seem to keep the weapons out of their hands because of their so called "rights". There are definitely holes in the system such as gun shows that require little or no background check and of course the advent of the internet where anyone can buy anything. Not to mention the number of kids who have no fathers to speak of and/or no supervision, whose only role models are the older members of their local gang, the inability of schools to deal with the little monsters before they become a real problem (teachers and administrators can't even look at kids funny without some asshole filing a lawsuit) because "my little johnny would never do anything bad" and how dare you treat my child like this.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe to this day the number one killer of teens in this country is still alcohol related auto accidents. And we all know how well alcohol prohibition worked.

    They're still people. Obviously there are tons of fucking morons and loser psycho's out there. As well as children that don't know better.

    the difference is cars serve a purpose, handguns don't...well, robbing and raping and murdering, I guess. You can say you need them as a safety precaution when you're hunting bears or something with a bow and arrow...but if you want to be a real badass and fucking kill bears, do it properly like a man.

    Bonsai guy, I agree, free the pot smokers and keep the real criminals in there for fucking ever. It's just a lot harder to differentiate between who could safely use guns and who can't, versus just eliminating them all together. Prohibition didn't work with alcohol, but I can brew that up in my bathtub, in mass quantities. I'd like to see somebody do that with hand guns...I'm sure they could, just not very efficiently.
