Sorry but I have to add this old cliche...guns don't kill people, people kill people
much like dicks don't rape people, people rape people.
Sadly, with or without guns, people always have and probably always will kill other people. This is evidenced by the number of prison inmates who are killed with spoons, clubs, fists and feet and even toothbrushes. I like my handgun. I'm not fooled in to thinking I can get to it before a burglar can or that it is a great way to defend my home and hearth. That's not the reason I bought it. I enjoy shooting for sport as in target shooting. I used to hunt with a gun, then switched to bow and arrow. Then I pretty much quit hunting because It's too much like work.
I grew up around guns and was taught to have a great deal of respect for them as well as for the laws. Taking peoples guns away does not do anything to reduce crime. Education reduces crime, incarceration reduces crime, rehabilitation works for some criminals but not for all of them. But it mostly comes down to people who have no respect for life that kill other people. Guns are just a means to an end.
And by the way, some people do hunt with handguns. Most states in the US either consider it legal or have a special season for handgun hunting. I have known people who hunt bears with bow and arrow but would not do it unless they also carried a sidearm, just in case.
