Back in the early 70's,we could even bring our guns to school and as long as we didn't take em out of our cars and trucks,it was okay. Many a time,we brought our rifles to school,so that we could go huntin and plinking,after school. Then modern liberalism raised it's ugly face..and suddenly ,guns were to be feared and the students were no longer trusted to be responsible for their guns. It was one of the silliest things we'd ever heard..I reckon that the liberals couldn't understand that we feared the wrath of our parents,if we mis-used a gun,more than what any cop would do.

First off torog, I'm sure it's easy to blame the libs for the fact that guns aren't allowed on school campuses anymore, but face facts. The problem was some of these people decided to start bringing their guns to school and shooting people. They weren't told to do so by the liberals, they just thought it sounded like a good idea.
You're probably right that liberals don't understand fearing your parents. but I don't see why that is relevant. Sounds like a whole 'nother issue for you conservatives to me...

And for you Tadaa, how to control? simple. make gun possession illegal. Sure, cops and military personal can still have their guns, when acting in regards to their duties, but regular citizens can't. All law-abiding persons would obviously turn theirs in then, and so we'd feel fine about "criminals" being busted for firearm possession.

Handguns were banned in 1997 after the Dunblane massacre, when Thomas Hamilton opened fire at a primary school leaving 16 children and their teacher dead. I have not seen one since (apart from in the US), Just wondering if anyone still owned one. The ban is so strict, the UK Olypmic Pistol team must practice in another country. 1. I'd say probably 75% of law abiding citizens wouldn't turn in their guns, and if the U.S ever tried to ban guns there would be a civil war, but they won't ever try and ban guns so you can get that out of your head right now.

Here in Texas,guns are looked at as useful tools for hunting and gittin rid of predators that attack our livestock,as well as defending our family's and homes,when we are far away from a police response.

I got my first gun when I was only 11 years old,a single shot 22,then I got a semi-auto 22 rifle,I worked for the money and got them on my own,my dad saw how responsible I was and bought me a 30-30 Winchester,when I was 12 or so,and we went out deer hunting and I got my first buck,an 8 pointer. Generally speaking, fighting in any form (excepting sporting events like martial arts tournaments) is for idiots who can't control their tempers or are too stupid to argue a point with their intellect and simply want to impose their will on others. If some one is coming at me with fists, a knife or club, or any other weapon, all bets are off and I am going to assume that the fool wants to kill me and therefore I will attempt to disable or, if absolutely necessary, kill that person first. Therefore I will pick up and utilize any weapon available to me from a rock to a bowling ball or if it's handy, my trusty 9mm. Especially if said nutcase is in my house. Never lose site of the fact that we humans are still animals and are not nearly as far removed from that animal behavior and instinct as we would like to believe. Your assertion that it is more noble or manly to fight with your fists, as well as your insistance on taking weapons away from law abiding responsible citizens, therefore attempting to force the rest of the world to agree with your views, is a perfect example of that.

i think that everyone should have to take extensive gun safety courses before they can own, possess, carry, or shoot a firearm. since i cant appropriately draw the line between hillbilly and good, thats the best i can do.

I think this is the most intelligent thing that has been said over these 8 pages of debate. It seems that most people are talking about protecting themselves, their property and loved ones, and using guns as the means. I personally wouldn't choose this option, but as long as guns are legal, others should have the right to make their own choice. Some also use guns for recreation, and that's cool.
It's the people that use/have guns irresponsibly, without regard for it's deadly potential that piss me off. Or the (mostly) men who see them as some kind of status symbol, some extension of their masculinity(sp?). Oh, yeah...and the criminals...I don't think you should be happy about criminals with or without guns! Of course, we are all probably criminals here, since we're on a marijuana website. The NRA also pisses me off. They don't seem willing to compromise on any issues, or work with lawmakers towards a middle ground on gun issues.
Now, I don't own a gun, nor do I want to. But, I'm glad I have that choice and that others get to decide for themselves.

I tell you what,some folks sure do have some funny ideas about guns,I don't know why they don't understand,a bullet is the one thing,that criminals and politicians fear..the way I see it,the goverment and criminals,should be afraid of us,not the other way around.
