Now had she been put in one of these places for life, I'm sure she would have gotten worse, as what happened to her mother, which was the reason we moved back to my mother's hometown. Once we moved there her mother moved in with us till the day she died.
What I remember and what I was told about her, was that she was like the people in the movie. We went to see her and see would just sit and do nothing. When we took her out, slowly things changed and before long she was walking herself to the grocery store with her little cart.
Mental istitutions are just warehouses. They drug the hell out of them to keep them calm so no one has to do any work. No real research into helping them because big pharma can't make any money off cures, but they certainly make a bundle off of symptoms.

ADHD- Soup of the Day in 90's , Bi-Polar-Soup of the Day in early 2000's, then PTSD later (for people that havent lived through anything remotely troublesome), and now you have hilarious number of autistic people being discovered at like 30 years old LULZ....sure there are some sad, sad, cases of autism. Not saying there arent, but Dr.s are people just making up excuses and reasons for people to behave the way they do. I take NO prescription psycho-active drugs and unless my kids hurt themselves, animals,or other kids neither will they. People are suckers and so weak minded these days they believe anything they hear some "Dr" or "Psychiatrist" tell them they have. Lulzy shit.

But just at a very different perspective. I don't think they're dumb, i just think they have problems communicating with other people.

What are your views on mentally disabled people?
My take on mentally disabled (and mentally ill) folks follows a universal view that in life: NEVER make fun of someone/something that is out of control for that person.
