You're right. Beyond the visual impact, obeisity has actually become a pretty serious health problem in America. Like most things here, people take a good idea too far. Back in the mid '80s when I was in high school the big thing was that girls were beig pressured to look like skinny little super models. Anorexia was becoming a big problem. So, the big push was to let girls know that they didn't have to be skinny super models and that they should be happy with their bodies no matter what they were like. Also, parents shouldn't be obsessed with having the perfect little girl and be accepting if they are a bit chubby. Good idea. But somehow people twisted this to mean its ok to become a serious fat ass and parents shouldn't say a word if their kid's diet consists soley of twinkies and super size McDonalds. Now the big thing is starting to be the fact that a lot of kids are obese, not just a bit chubby, but unhealthely obese. My guess is that fairly soon the push will soon start to go back to being skinny and the cycle will start all over again.
