    following in fathers footsteps

To start off this thread i have to tell my story. My father recently died about 7 months ago due to a drunk driver. He was a very large pot grower. He has left me with some very nice supplys and decided to try and continue on the traditon. I have not had very much experience with growing except from what i saw him and his buddies do. He has left me with 7 1000watt sodium lights, all with timers, heat controls, and reflectors. So my question is, he has a bag of about 15 seeds labeld white widow and another with about 5 labeld AK. i have 5 white widows and 2 ak's germinating right now. (second day and showing signs of sprouting) do you guys think i should use the 1000watt lights to start growing with? or should i get some CFL's for the first 15-20 days till second leaf's kick in? and then use the big lights? and if i get CFL's what wattage should i be looking for, and how many per plant. ill keep posting as i go on and adding pictures of set up soon. and if anybody as any other information to add for a new grower (knowing that this is first time and just throwing it all out there for fun, not looking for anything huge.) would be greatly apprecated. Thank you all for reading thru my long boreing post.

CFL's for seedlings.. especially if you are new...
keep a close eys on the plants..

for people who bond with their plants...
the answers are always right in front of them..

some people go as far as to say the plants talk to them...
that's just personification... and what I did is JUST LABLING...

    LOL

but in a short time with a lot of attention and awareness dedicated to your plants...
you will beging to "hear" them...

It takes a bit longer to figure out what they are "saying"

I look forward to giving you my 2 cents...

    love

    : )

Hey exotic, Cfl's are definately the way to go for seedlings. I have 1 42w CFL per 4 plants and that is perfect. Cfl's dont get hot so you can put them right up next to the leaves. If you goto homedepot then look for the bigger 100w-200w. Those are your best bet if you plan to grow a large garden. Email me if you need Advice [email protected] .... I am a member of the NAACP.... I use HID's for seedling but I just hang the lights 4 or 5 feet above them. The light is not very intense on the young seedlings at that height and they do get some warmth from them. I leave the lights at this height till I see the second set of true leaves and then I drop the light to 16 inches above them and get the growing started.

CFL's would be fine but if you're not into buying anything extra then I'm just letting you know that you can work with what you have.

Really sorry to hear about your dad.

sry about your father! if he had no other lights then obviously he used his hps on the seedling, why not you it will work if you keep the plants far enough away there first couple days, give them like 4 mabe five feet. i put seedlings under a 400 watt mh with air cooled hood about 3-4 feet away and had no problem, just watch the heat! keep them watered
