Yes, if the crystals are collected from the weed you are also taking THC away from the weed. Basically what happens is that when you grind your weed some of the crytals will fall off. They will also fall off in the baggie, when you touch the bud, etc. It's really a non-issue because the amount of THC you are losing is so small you'll never notice it when smoking the weed.

The bonus is that the crystals themselves are high in THC. If you collect them over time you will build up a fair amount which you can put into a pollen press and essentially make a crude form of reasonably potent hash. I have to stess the "over time" part of this. You're not going to grind up a gram or two and get enough crystals to do anything with. After an ounce or two, however, you should have a decent smokable amount. For me its more of a fun "wow, I made my own hash!!" type of thing than anything else. Just something that goes along with smoking thats cool to do.
