hps is much better for flowering then mh. mh is better for veg though. the best lighting (other than the sun) you can give your plants is a full spectrum light which is hps and mh bulbs burning side by side. if for some reason i had to use only 1 bulb it would definetely be the hps! i would definetely say the hps is a distant second to mh. they are both hid lighting just different spectrums.
