Yankee here...grew up in chi-town but always loved the south especially the phrase howdy ( don't know why, childhood fixation?) Live south of chicago now but occasionally slip a "howdy" into a professional setting and believe me it don't work with a chicago accent. Many a time I have felt like a russian diplomat in DC. Out-of-place!
