interesting, my husband got his letter from homeland security and a month later a visit from the local narcotics squad, who searched our home found a bong, bowl, and about a 1/2 gram of weed, but the DA threw out the charge because the search was illegal, so I guess it depends on where you live.

my husband had a package seized by customs, and did not get a letter from customs, but from homeland security. They contacted the local police, who then came to our home and searched without a warrent and threatened us with a swat team if we refused to let them search. The DA believed this to be coersion and so drop the charge of possesion. We didn't have a lawyer so they could have gotten away with it. At least our local DA is a stand up guy.

Well I'll be daggumed ! This is what happened to me ! I got one of them letters from Chicago customs,last year and didn't reply to them of course,then,after gittin some packages attempted to sent to me from Vancouver,I got a 'visit',in the form of our local task force,a postal inspector and some kind of fed. They didn't identify themselves when they knocked on the door to wake me from a nap,they were all in civilian clothes and un-marked vehicles. They didn't leave any calling cards or paperwork and they siezed about 5 grams of weed and a couple of pieces of paraphenalia,with no paper-work describing what they siezed. The packages that I was gittin in the mail,were all gifts,,not actual orders and were only a couple of grams or so.

The fed warned me against talking about my 'story ' on the net and the task force leader said that if I was a 'good boy',that they wouldn't charge with the weed they took from my stash box,well..I reckon that he changed his mind-because I spent the 14th in jail. He said that he would give me a chance to report voluntarily,but they instead,they woke me up again,with a deputy at my door with no warning,to arrest me for it.

I'm 100% disabled and the packages I was gittin,were gifts of compassion with no expectation of money,which I told them and they said that they were not there to debate medical marijuana.

Maybe I should call up my local prosecutor and tell him that my Constitutional rights were violated and the whole thing was improperly done ? I would also like to tell him that the county will have to assume the costs of my medical care as well.

Did you get more than one letter? It's hard to tell from your story. Thanks for sharing it though. I know that was a rough experience. I wouldn't wait any longer to contact someone in your state to tell your story. LEOs can't just roust you out of bed, steal your stuff, and cart you off to jail without any paperwork.

Why did your DA not know about the search before it actually happened then? Just don't understand how they could do that and the "local" DA was in the dark? Usually they would know about somethng like a letter from Homeland Security wouldn't you think

I've heard those letters put you on your local police department's watch list. Not confirmed. It makes sense though.

go there and scroll down to dont get busted guides. they got some official shit there about laws and whatnot. under no circumstance can they search your house without a warrant.
