When I was stationed at Great Lakes navy base,up at Chicago,I found out real quick,that most yankee's think that saying Howdy and smiling,is just some kind of a suspicious thing..lol..they looked at me like I was fixin to rob em or something. Although,the waitresses in the cafes there,did seem to appreciate a friendly greetin..once they realized that I was sincere. I reckon that they were used to dealin with sour-faced yankees who only complain and make snide remarks.

When I was in Saudi,we weren't allowed to stare at women and certainly never look em in the eyes unless we had some dang good reason to do so..how many other cultures are offended by lookin in their eyes and sayin "Howdy" ?

Are y'all Brits saying that if I pass someone on the street there,that they'd act like yankees and think that I'm up to no good - if I said Howdy and nodded my head at em ?
