ID cards 'will track where people go'
Philip Johnston / London Telegraph | January 28 2006
Anti-ID cards campaigners accused the Home Office yesterday of misleading parliament and the public over plans to include radio tracking devices in ID cards.
Only last month, Andy Burnham, the Home Office minister, said in a parliamentary written answer that there were "no plans to use radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in ID cards".
However, a leaked letter from Mr Burnham indicates that the chips will use radio frequencies to allow "contactless" reading of the card by special scanners.
The Home Office said the signals emitted would be picked up only at a distance of a few inches. But Phil Booth, co-ordinator of the No2ID campaign, said receivers could easily be boosted to receive signals from much further away. This would allow anyone carrying the card to be tracked in the street or entering a building.
Mr Booth said that unlike normal RFID technology, which simply broadcast a number as a means of identifying an individual holder, the chips envisaged for use would transmit personal details.
He added: "This technology will make the cards a snooper's paradise. It is outrageous for the Government to conceal this from the public and try to deny it in parliament."
However, he said that since there would be no legal requirement to carry the cards, the people that the police most wanted to keep tabs would not be picked up if they took the simple precaution of leaving the card at home.
Mr Burnham said the radio technology was being introduced to meet international regulations enabling identity documents to be read by scanners at airports. It was "nonsense" to suggest the frequencies could be used to monitor people's movements.
"This kind of scaremongering is designed to whip up fears about the ID cards scheme. I hope people will see it for what it isscobbie Reviewed by scobbie on . Yup, I see it for what it is. Total control of people and no privacy.
Keep your ID cars and your RFID chips.

ID Card tracking
This a scary yet interesting subject. Imagine that you could be issued a card that contained all your personal info including medical and financial records, voter registration specs, and any number of things that pertain to you. Also using the card you could have access to all you financial accounts (like a super debit card) you would only need this one card for every function of everyday life. Job interviews, buying plane tickets, applying for loans or to rent an apartment, etc. you could handle you every purchase or payment with this one card, and since it registars every use, it could be easily tracked if stolen.
Now imagine that instead of a card it was a chip implanted in your hand when you were born with the capability of transferring information wirelessly. Wouldn't that be convinient? Wouldn't you feel safer knowing that no one can stel you identity or you money?
The answer for most god-fearing, tax-paying, regular type folks(eg420ne calls them sheeple) is yes. And the answer would be yes if those in charge of the system could be trusted but they can't and they've proven it time and again.
Anyone who thinks this system would be a blessing need to really look at the idea of "tagging" our populace. Do you really want the powers that be to know your every expenditure, where and when you bought something? Doy you want them to know ecxactly where you are at any given moment?
It's too bad that we can't trust our own governments. I heard a nice quote somewhere
"People should not fear their government. The government should fear it's people."
Sorry for the rant, I just think it's all a bit of a shame.

ID Card tracking
Question....is anybody on this forum such a bad ass that the government would have a worker spend time tracing your movements? Keep in mind that there is over 25,000 different gangs in the U.S. with a membership of over 1,000,000. This doesn't even include the bikers which has a sizable population and a reputation. I'm sure they would want to track child molestors too.
Since it's an I.D. card I would imagine that if you were in a position of being tracked what would stop ya from mailing your card 1400 miles away? Just an I.D. card folks, nothing to look at here!
