The word "Thug" comes from India. There was a cult of people called the "Thuggies" Who followed en route to pilgramige site's. Gradually gaining the trust of the group the thuggies would strangle them all in thier sleep. They did this to honour the goddess CALI. Who I think was the God of death and love. Some people think they started off as an off shoot on the Asassins of Arabia , and gradually absorbed local indian culture and gods.
