    dealing with depression.

Honestly? I have battled severe depression for many years. I battle anxiety on a daily basis. Smoking weed helps me immensely. It makes a huge difference. As for other things, I don't know. Could just be my brain chemistry but weed is the best thing for my depression and anxiety, nothing else helps me.

Stay away from TV, its designed to fuck with your emotions & values & control your mind. Be outdoors a lot. Walk & bike a lot.

Be aware if you are a day or night person and don't fight it. Some people need light, they say it actually makes hormones in the retina. Its like a vitamin deficiency called "seasonal affective disorder", SAD.

But some people (like me) hate light. My house is always as dark as possible and I almost only go out at night if I can help it. And I love it! I drag all morning, then about 17:00 my energy comes up and I peak about 24:00 and go until 04:00. I am always happy on this schedule and I would be miserable living a "nine-to-five" life.

The point is, a lot of people will try to make you feel guilty about an offbeat schedule. If anyone gives me a hard time about sleeping until noon, I tell them, "where were you at four this morning when I was working my ass off."

Get enough sleep and don't let anyone guilt you into a lifestyle that isn't right for you. Living alone is great as long as you get out with friends!

And if anyone gives me shit about smoking pot, I tell them "at least I don't watch TV like you!"

Standing out on the edge of the building watching the traffic below
Smoking a joint and thinking of jumping, life sux i'm ready to go
Below me a crowd starts to gather around
Cop cars and news camera's too
I just cant get out of this pain i'm in and
I dont know what else to do

They tell me depression runs in the family, well that doesnt help me much
Sometimes i feel like i'm so uninvited, like something so out of touch
We're already in hell as far as i can tell
Just listen to the people scream
A cop on the bullhorn telling me i got so much to live for
I wish he'd get to the point
I'm almost through with this joint

I get stoned and do yoga. It helps with stress plus makes you feel so much better. Any type of exercise is a good thing though. Hope you see better days.......

well said Heather. Exercise is a great for depression.
You said that you get stoned and do Yoga. I sometimes do the opposite. I do Yoga and Tae Kwon Do, and get stoned. It's just a different kind of stone/rush/good feelin. I think that ya dig where i'm coming from.

    awesome post

i was reading about the brain. apparently there is this system in your brain that controls depression. it's deep within the reptilian core and can be kind of shut down by activating higher areas by keeping "busy"

I hear you Heather. I raised my two kids after my wife died and now take care of my grand kids most of the time. shit. If they werent such good kids i would of changed the locks on the doors year ago.
I happen to be one of those rather young grandpa's(approaching 50)
and my alomst 15 year old grand daughter and i have a remarkable relationship. I am considered the "rad" grand parent to all of her friends. I have no idea why.
