Alito Confirmed.
Judge Samuel Alito was today confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.
Why am I bothering to post this in a thread?
Because Samuel Alito is a drug-war Nazi. He ruled in favor of the police in a case where the police raided a drug dealer's house, and they strip searched an 8 year old girl and the drug dealer's wife.
He also ruled in favor of the police in a case where, upon seeing a fight take place through an open window, a patroling officer not only arrested the fighting individuals, which is perfectly acceptable, but continued to conduct a search for drugs in the home, although drug use had not been suspected. The officer found some drugs in the home, and the owner(s) of the drugs were calling out that the officer had no right to search them (which they didn't).

Eh, on a local level this won't effect anything; the local sheriff elections are way more serious. The only way this would really effect you is in prohibition cases, which aren't gong to be won any time soon, Alito or no Alito.

Judges rule on the law, they don't invent it. Law makers are to blame not judges.

I'm not defending Alito, but theres got to be more to these stories. C'mon. If it was this blatant, he would have obviously lost his bar certification. There must be more info or at least a better explanation for the other side of the argument.

Thats too bad, I really dont like him as a judge. Far too conservative. He may not make the laws, but he sides with the government and/or big business in almost every case. That's one more vote against abortion and medical marijuana and alot of other issues that I cant think of at the moment. I guess I'm glad the Dems didn't block him, that wouldn't have helped them in the mid-terms.

you are perfectly right judges rule on the law not invent it, but however a supreme court justice decides wether or not a law is constitutional personally I dont want the goverment deciding it's constitutional to come in and search my house for drugs if there is no reason to suspect drug use.

On the fight case, Alito claimed that, as long as the police were in the house, they could have done what they wanted. I think it was either that or he claimed the officer thought the guests were intoxicated (which they weren't) so he went searching for drugs.
