you know i read the other day that weed doesn't actually help you get a good nights sleep as alot of people think.....it knocks you out but it disrupts your REM period of sleep, in almost the same way alcohol does....which results in you not getting the rest you need...

....that is actually ALL i know about it....id like to find ut more but i couldn't really find anything else on it....so it might not actually be true.

    Physical Withdrawals

Once in a while, I'll go for a week or two without weed. I can't say I ever felt anything I would consider withdrawal.
I can sign my life over to the American Government and get sent away to be killed in Iraq at the age of 18, but I can\'t enjoy a beer. I can buy a legal hallucinogenic, but I\"m unable to smoke a bowl after a hard day of work. God bless the USA.

well, nausea/lack of appetite is a part of why i smoke pot, so it's difficult for me to eat without it, but i dont think i can call that withdrawal. before i got sick though, the first few years i was smoking pot, if i stopped for a while i was usually irritable the first couple of days. not physical withdrawal, per se, but part of withdrawal is the mental readjustment to stopping your substance of choice.

I believe this to be true from my own experience. When abstaining after a number of consecutive THC days, I notice a significant increase of intense dreaming... and feel more rested the next morning.

I imagine that the body of a long-term/lifetime daily smoker must somehow adjust to the lack of REM sleep. Maybe this effect wears off after very long-term use, or maybe they stay awake throughout the high and go to sleep sober (naaaaah).

Marijuana reduces REM sleep slightly in the short term, therefore reduces sleep disruption. However, continuing use of the substance produces a sustained reduction in SWS (Slow Wave Sleep).

Marijuana ingestion has minimal sleep disruption with slightly reduced REM sleep acutely, however chronic intake causes long-term slow wave sleep suppression.

Alcohol -Acute ingestion of alcohol even in low doses causes changes in sleep. When blood alcohol levels < 10 mg/dl â?? increased total sleep time and reduced awake activity.
