depends... here are some factors to consider

    space
    local laws
type of system (lights, hydro, aero, soil)
    money to invest
    strain
    how much bud you want..

    : )

loads of small ones you get better light penetration and that's the point of SOG. just watch your back.

Yea because I think most laws go by how many plants you have untill they are harvested then it goes to how much bud you have. Goodluck.

WTG! youve just had some of the best respond to you (not talkin about me ima noob). but the reason im getting back at you is because i live in LA Ca and here the law says you can have up to 8 oz of finished smoke for medicinal uses and grow for yourself 12 hunies with 6 being "mature" so im limited to just 12 (6 in veggy state and 6 in flower) BUT this aspect gives me an excellent opprotunity to try a couple different approaches. when growing outside all growers will tell you "bigger is better" but they are not limited by either space or light and depending on the growing season will take from 6-10 mo. now the Hydro Gods will tell you almost to a T SOG (Sea Of Green) - short hydroponic bushys grown under HIDs - as little as 2 months in veggy and 2 months in flower requiring a larger # of plants to obtain a larger # of buds in a shorter amount of time. since time is not an issue my problem was simple - how do i get a equal # of buds from a smaller # of plants - simple...LEGNTHEN the time GROW bigger plants and by tying down and pruning increase light penetration to obtain the maximum # of colas. using this appraoch ill be able to increase the veg stage from 2 mo to 4 with my 1st set of six and the second set will have 6 mo in veg. after i complete this phase THEN when the SOG concept is appilied i will be able to give the definative awnser..."which is better"

ziggy i live in la too.near bghydro on wasington blvd in commerce.
just thinking that 4 months in veg will bring a plant to about 5-6 feet.then when you flower its gonna double.how are you planning on lighting the bottom of the plant.gonna cost a grip on electricity and the yield wont cover back expenses.who knows though

topping the 5th node should limit that to managable - then by placing a garden lattice under the chambers tying down will be easy. using 430W son agros (x3 in an 8'x14' room) you can max your lumens, using light movers would allow you to get as close as possible w/o burning - compensating for the lower wattage. the only thing you should have a slight prob with is venting (i took a tip from Lord LiteSpeed re a small fan over the tops of my seedlings and my 175WMH is just a few inches from the tops hopefully i can get as close as 6-10"). i chose the son agros because of reports that say it is THE most efficient bulb available and the only light needed as it is higher in the red end of the spectrum than other MH conversion bulbs(3 would run at almost 1.3Kw and after 4 mo this # would go down as then your flowering 1/2 of the crop and your energy consumption would go down by 20-25% because of photoperiod shortening). now mind you my field is outdoors this is my 1st time going hydro but i am just amazed at the results thus far. until now ive never seen 10 day old sprouts w 5 point fan leaves!!! either way by applying the above i hope to obtain SOG results with a much smaller volume of ladies . you see i sufffer from serious chronic pain the only relief i have ever obtained was from from cannabis. finally the law allows me the right to grow a limited amount of PLANTS im hoping to learn from ALL of YOU how to maximize this opportunity so that OTHERS who need it can also have it even if they arnt making 40K a year . am ashamed when i walk into a club and see prices at over 400 an oz because i know that the poor feel pain just as much as the rich

CORRECTION: The 430W Son Agro is an HPS conversion bulb that emits 53K lumens and is high enough in the BLUE end to be used for BOTH veg state and flowering - sorry

just keep pluggin bro...it took like 15 years to get halfway decent laws here in cali. whats really shitty is that rather that defining the issue regarding distrubition and sales of medical cannabis local law enforcement and county government STILL keeps cannabis hidden from the public and their laws in the so called gray area inorder to selectivley prosecute, thus the prices are SKYHIGH this point initself runs in direct opposition to the intent of State Bill 420 which reads in part:

    (4) In addition, the act called upon the state and the federal government to develop a plan for the safe and affordable distribution of marijuana to all patients in medical need thereof.

SAFE and AFFORDABLE, yet growers are still looking behind every bush for the man. and GREEDY cannabis club owners reap $$$$$, most TAX FREE. someday that too will change BUT only as long as we the people keep on pushin ....and off the subject ...LOL WHO in the heck handels that NEBULA strain...i wanna order some seed!
