ok what you need to do is put your seeds in a glass of water. wait untill all of them sink. after that take 2 identical plates or bowls, get some paper towels - wet them. place the paper towels on the plate and put your seeds on the towel. put annother wet paper towel (note: dont drench the towel just get it kinda wet) on top of the seeds. take your second plate and place it on top. take some plastic wrap and seal your plates together and sit back and relax. check every 24 hours to see if theyve cracked. it shouldn't take more than 2 days. after that stick em in your grow medium and let'er rip. Oh yea and if the leftover seed shell thing is still on your plant after its sprouted go ahead and take that off.

OH yea about the lights. if you only plan to grow 1 plant 100 watts should be enough but you want to remember to get your light about 2-3 inches away from your baby after it gets through the top of your medium to avoid stretching. good luck on your first grow.

Throw the seeds in the soil and water with distilled water. In a few days they'll break through the soil and you're ready to go. I have no idea why people would want to get the seeds to "crack" in paper towls or glasses of water. If it is to see which beans are viable, you can tell that in the pots as well. (they're the pots with no plants in em lol). New roots are fragile and handling them must be done very carefully. I wouldn't recomend it for a beginner.
The 100 watt light bulb will be fine for germinating seeds. It gives off a little heat as well so that will help in getting them out of the soil. You'll need to be better lights soon tho.
Hope this helpz.

The reason you want to see them crack is because if you just plant them and they dont crack then you have wasted money, and valuble space especialy if your growing multiple plants in one pot or if you have little space. it may seem like a good idea to just stick the seeds in the ground but sometimes its not as reliable as acctually watching them crack.

very simple technique i use is paper towel 2-ply bounty or anything water obsorbing a ziplock bag water seeds air and vuala within 24 to 48 hours you'll know what'll grow and what wont place seeds within paper towels soak towel with luke warm water place in ziplock bag puff up the bag so theres sufficient air inside to maintain the seedlings and place on top of a warm surface like a cable box or on top of your p/c if u keep it on 24 hours like i do also i dont recomend placing more then 1 seed per pot as this tends to lead to needless hastle later on best of luck

Sativagrowin, I think I'm getting where I agree more with you, but I soak the seeds for a short time, like 6-8 hours, to soften the shell, then plant. I'd just rather not have to tamper with the very small root and hairs when I can just plant 'em after soaking. Although I know the majority of growers probably do use some variation of this method & wait till there's a root showing, or a non-viable seed. Whatever, I've done it that way most of the time with no prob, but still just don't like fooling with the seed any more than possible. And the shell or partial shell that's on there; I never touch it; it'll fall off soon enough & ain't hurtin anything. JMHO...

Soak for 24 hours...if not all are sunk by then hit them with your finger, they should go down...If it doesn't put it in the paper towel anyway it might still pop.
