DWC cloning didn't work well
Has anyone tried making clones in a bubble cloner, but with the stems submerged in the water instead of above the water's surface? After reading on a forum about that method, my friend tried that. Thinking it would be easier to just let the stems hang in the water than worry about every spot on the surface [of the lid] getting misted.
Not sure what the temps were unfortunately, but room temps were never over 75 day/? night. Many airlines, just a few inches apart, bubbling like mad. Instead of rooting in days, they never rooted (whole bunch of them). So he just left it bubbling -- for 5 weeks total. Then most of 'em showed rootbumps + at 6 weeks nice long white roots. I couldn't believe the roots after that long. Of course the topsides are practically dead, used all their food up.
It seemes logical -- oxygen in the water should be just as good as oxygen from the bubblemist/air. But......
Has anyone tried this before? Is MJ just not a plant that will clone underwater?grow4fun Reviewed by grow4fun on . Don't know about the "underwater" thing.
You might have starved them for Oxygen, even though there where shitloads of bubbles. Maybe they almost drowned.
6 weeks? Shit dude, I gave up on my clones on the 4th day. I admire your Budha-like patience.
I think it'd be best to let the stems hang above the water surface. When bubbles rise to the top, they "pop". With that pop, small droplets/spray of water hits the stems, walls, ceilings, etc.
Also, I think you should use air stones, to make smaller air bubbles.
Just my 2cents

I'm not sure what your friend did, but you can root cannabis in just water without bubbles. How much of the stem was submerged versus what was on top?

sorry, and 3 - 4 inches above. Pretty good-sized cuttings, good amount of leaf.

Hey,turtle how's it going?
On overgrow website someone devoted a whole picture tutorial on clones in only water, no gel and no bubbles. If you're interested check that out. It's in advanced techniques.
I've grown tomatos, by just sticking a clone in water, by a window. You want dim light, not bright. After several days the clone roots. Recently, I did the same in swallow water culture with floating a clone in a slice of pool noodle. Took 9 days to root outdoors in 70 degree weather day and 40 degrees at night. Instead of bubbles I used a submersible pump in the tray. I didn't even trim the large leaves on the clone. Just left them. After the plant set out 2 inch roots, the large leaves started to yellow.
My plants are only a week old. When they get large enough, I will clone them and try several different methods of cloning. Hope this helps.
